GP1138
OK... I've searched on this, so let me see if I can summarise logically what I've surmised. I gets me a 3400 set of heads, intakes, and exhaust manifolds. I then tears down my 3.1L to the block, and remove the exhaust manifolds (from the downpipe forward if that's possible) and reinstall the 3400 crap. Is that feasible and possible? I forgot just how dog slow the 3.1L is.
Crazy K
LOL!!!!! yes. custom length pushrods would be needed, but I don't recall an other issues, except...... TUNING! aince you have a 92, a DOHC chip should not work I would assume.... since you do not have an auto tranny. p.s. call me, beotch! oh yeah... you'll need 3x00 injectors too. Andrew
to find the right length pushrod, get one of these. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_753211_-1_10225
slick
Custom pushrods, tune, and a few other odd's and ends. You could do it in a weekend.
Brian P
I don't remember custom pushrods being a part of this conversion, but maybe I'm wrong. I thought the rocker arm is the same distance on 3.1 and 3400 heads. Just use the 3.1 pushrods... You'll also need the accelerator cable, cruise cable, Power steering lines, and many other miscellaneous brackets. Some wiring has to be altered and you will need the 3400 EGR pipe and EGR adapter (I have one for sale should you use '96-99 3400 manifolds). GutlessSupreme
Everything I've read says custom pushrods. Probably not for a 3100->3400, but for a 3.1, yes. some good reading here, if I remember correctly: http://www.3400swap.com/
19Cutlass94
3100-3400 pushrods are the same but are different from 2.8-3.1 I can finally view that download! But everything else doesnt work.

Yeah def, but I think the position (height) of the lifters and/or valley changed, not the position of the rocker arms. So if you keep the 3.1MPFI pushrods when using a 3.1MPFI block, cam, lifters, etc you *should* be okay. I know I have this answer somewhere, let me look around. GP1138
Am I correct in surmising that I can remove the exhaust manifolds at the downpipe and substitute the 3x00's?
19Cutlass94
Am I correct in surmising that I can remove the exhaust manifolds at the downpipe and substitute the 3x00's? Yes you can remove the manifolds and replace them
Brian P
you need the 3x00 downpipe though, and it has to be a matching style, as there's a few different versions.
19Cutlass94
If he uses the rear log style and not the '95+ style he should be fine correct? Then the DP would be in the same location for the manifolds.
Brian P
The manifold from '93.5-96 is that side exit style (that likes to crack). '97 and up is a stronger manifold that exits out the center like the 3.1 MPFI, but the downpipe flange is totally different (no spring bolts or flared donut gasket)
GP1138
Well... I have a 3100 lower and upper intake without TB leftover from my '95 GP, but if I'm gonna do this I wanna go all out and upgrade to post-1999 3100/3400 parts. I might need to ask dbtk2 how he did his 3.1Turbo/3100 hybrid..
19Cutlass94
WHy dont you just swap in a 3400? Your basically almost completely there.
GP1138
WHy dont you just swap in a 3400? Your basically almost completely there. I was thinking about that as well.. however I would still have to worry about the downpipe.
BIGBULS
The stock downpipe blows ass anyway, replace it. I also would just vote for a full 3400 swap anyway though. Because the stock LHO cam is dogshit when matched to a Gen III big-port top end................and if you are going to cam it ANYWAY..........just replace it ALL

Addicted to eaton
WHy dont you just swap in a 3400? Your basically almost completely there. It sounds like he has these odds and ends layign around. were he could just do it. Insted of running out and spending 500 bucks on a 3400
1QUICKHATCH
you need the coustom pushrods for the 3x00 roller rockers. I beleave you can get away with stock 3.1 pushrods if you use the stock rockers from the 3.1 and get adjustable rocker studs from the old iron head 2.8/3.1s.
