Signs of a dying tranny?

Hey guys, well my lumina's at it again, this time Im getting weird misses when I downshift also when it goes into 1st from neutral from a stop. Basically it happened once about 2 months ago, I was going around a steep corner at like 35 or something and punched it on the way out and all i got was a lot of fuss from the engine but the tranny didn't downshift. I let off the gas and it went into gear and didnt make any problems.

Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago, i notice my 1-2 shifts have become alot softer. The tranny has 150k+ on it so its been pretty hard for the last 50k or so. And now the not getting into gear thing is happening all the time. At low speeds and low throttle, just enough to get the tranny to downshift it will happen. Is this slipping clutches or a valve body issue? The car is 1 foot in the grave so a swap is out of the question, but will something like a transmition oil stabilizer help? My fluid is nice and pink, not burnt, and thanks in no small part to a slight leak I drove with for almost a year the tranny got a new bottle worth of oil every couple of months (topped off gradually over those months).

Im not getting any codes from the ecm so i think its not a solenoid issue.

P.S. its a 97' lumina, 150k like i said, all original, and umm my LIM gasket is leaking like a sieve.

Thanks!

Theres alot of things it could be. Most likely the bands are no longer applying enough force to the drums. I would drop the trans pan and pull the filter to see if there is alot of metal shaving or clutch material.

Also, a pressure test is overlooked alot of time. Make sure you have the right pressure in there.

Is it basically like the car is going into neutral, free revving and then slamming back down into gear? My regal does the same thing, as well as having an extremely slow 1-2 shift under any kind of acceleration. If I back off at the exact right moment, it shifts perfectly. If i accelerate at WOT, then you dont even notice it and it shifts properly. I've been told that it is the 1-2(i believe) shift accumulator spring that is either broken or worn out. I haven't attempted it yet, but it looks really straight forward. Basically you just remove the pan and they are right there. Shouldn't requrie a full rebuild, and it should be pretty cheap too. Like less than 100$ if you do it on your own.

Just FYI: I've driven my regal with this same issue for about 25000 Km, and it has not gotten any worse. I just knew how to keep it from happening. My trans has about 397000 km on it and the fluid is still the same colour it was when i changed it about 20000 km ago.
