dohc v6
OK so I have had this clunking problem ever since I have had the car to my knowledge. Basically when I turn the wheel it will clunk and sometimes pop, like something is getting stuck. So I know my ball joints are bad and tie rods as well, so I am putting brand new gm ones on right now. but when I looked under the car at the steerin gear I saw oil and grease on the boot on both sides. My question is, is this normal or is it time for a new one. Also will that cause a clunk.
dohc v6
When a steering gear goes bad what does it do, will it make a clunkning and poping noise?
Euro
Na, it's the balljoints.
gp90se
Ball joints clunk before they let go completely
dohc v6
ok good to know. So probably the oil on the bellow for the steering gear is just from my leak up front.THe turbo drain line needs to be fixed, it leaks a small amount but drips down the oil pan and flings to the back of the car. Thanks guys
GutlessSupreme
yea the oil could be anything up front just spraying back. it's when it leaks out of the boot when it's a problem lol. if the grease is really heavy though, make sure you check your CV boots for holes. dohc v6
No not that much grease, and I did check them though they are fine. The boots on the rack have grease and like one little droplet of oil on it. I guess what I can do is check to make sure there is no leak or tear on the boot and if there is not, then I know that it was just residual from the front.
