GtipGary
This might seem like a dumb question... but how the fuck do you get the power steering pump off of a 96 3100?? It looks like the bolt has to be taken out through a little hole in the pulley. I dont think that i have the right tools tho cause i cant get ne thing in there to get the damn bolt out. Im trying to pull the intake and one of the bolts is right underneath the power steering pump
GutlessSupreme
On the 3.1, there's 3 10mm (?) bolts that need to be taken out through the pulley. They go through the timing cover.
GtipGary
Its a 3100 in a 96 grand am... but you would need to take the motor mount out to get access right???
GutlessSupreme
I have no idea on a Grand Am. But on a W, no way. (I know, not exactly helpful. sorry).
GtipGary
yeah cause the motor mount on this car is on the right hand side where the coolant resevoir is. And you cant get the tool through the pulley because the motor mount is in the way!
gpchris
This MIGHT help
GtipGary
It definately would if it were on the other side!
gpchris
I dont really see why that would help?? you see the bolt locationsi dont quite understand how a pic of the otherside would help...
gpchris
well this is the best pic i have of the other side:
GutlessSupreme
he's working on a Grand Am, so that side won't help him here. I think he thought you posted a GA not a W. damn, 3100s are so much better constructed than 3.1s...
GtipGary
yeah... the only bad thing is the damn motor mount location!!! the fing bolt holding the motor mount in was so tight i stripped the mofo! now i cant get the motor mount off! therefore i cant get the powersteering pump off! On a better note, i managed to get the lost pushrod out by turning the crankshaft till it came back up and then i used a magnet to get it out. besides the unbeleivable amount of sludge everything looks alright. Every single push rod was plugged solid! Im thinking that since no oil could come throught the pushrods and there was no oil on the topend that that is the reason i was hearing all of the knocking (im hoping). rockfangd
removing the motor mount on the grand am provides easy access to the bottom bolt of the power steering pump. Just unbolt the mount and lift the engine a little, and voila. it is actually pretty easy.

Thats what i was trying to do! but there is two nuts on the bottom part of the motor mount and they are so tight that i stripped the one! Now i cant get the damned thing off

5speedz34
and where could i acquire one of those magical instruments? Well it says Craftsman on the top, so Sears. And this should be in the other cars section.
