partsmore Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 Need some help; 1990 Lumina 3.1L sedan 1) Has 90-94 Lumina Euro gauge and dash package. a) Oil Pressure gauge starts at 90 PSI with key off, key on, and stays there water temp starts at 100 key off and on - pegs to 260 and then returns to 100 Obviously had dummy lights and needs senders and wires for gauges. Does anyone know the #'s and what wiring would need to be done to make these gauges work? 2) Cooling fan #1 doesnt come on as early as Id like, seems pretty warn, and #2 doesnt come on... 3) Low coolant light stays on - changed three sensors -- would the sensor be different for this gauge package? Couldnt tell but it has 175,000 miles. Has red pearl paint, shaved doors, keyholes, antenna, taillights, y pipe dual exhaust, 18" x power rims, painted engine compartment, aluminum coolant tank, chrome radiator hose, chrome intake, chrome strut tower brace, all audiobahn stereo, converted euro gauges and wiring. Interior was all maroon, went with all mint silver, power drivers seat, new carpet, billet steering wheel, painted trim, vinyl headliner and rear deck. Listed on CarDomain ***BUSINESS ADVERTISING IS NOT PERMITTED*** Quote
Robby1870 Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 a) Time for a new oil pressure sender, probably. Located next to the oil filter. Make sure and get the sender for a car with the pressure gauge and not just the sender for the gauge cluster with the dummy light. Time for a new coolant temp sender. It's on the rear head, one green wire coming from it. 2) The 1st cooling fan comes on around 220*F and the second when the A/C is on or engine temp is like 230*F 3) Not sure about the low coolant sensor, but I know that the sensor type changed between 90 and 92, one is a two prong, the other is a one prong, from what I remember. partsmore Posted October 13, 2007 Author Report Posted October 13, 2007 Wow that was quick - will the wires on the sensors Im changing be the same? I just got the cooling fans both workin, this car seems to run very warm - and put a 180 thermostat and 16# radiator cap on it. Developed a miss- so I am going to change flugs, incase I got it too warm (?) Quote
93CutlassSupreme Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 http://www.w-body.com/forum/index.php/topic,35754.0.html Here's a thread about the oil pressure gauge. Since your car didn't have Euro gauges originally, it appears that a resistor needs to be bypassed in addition to changing the switch with a sender. The cooling fans can be wired with an on/off switch, if you'd like. The stock fan points are perfectly adaquate to provide long engine life however. I personally think 180* thermostats are a waste on a stock engine, but whatever you want to do. btw, your car sounds kind of rice. Quote
partsmore Posted October 13, 2007 Author Report Posted October 13, 2007 Tomorrow I will pickup an oil pressure sender for a Euro with a gauge, but I havent seen the notes to complete the wiring for the oil pressure switch. I'll also pick up a gauge sender for the water temp gauge if someone will help me find it and wire it. This is a great group! Quote
BXX Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 Did you happen to buy this car??? http://www.cardomain.com/ride/731565 That was "juicedlumina's" ride... He is a member on here... Mainly just trying to sell the car Quote
89SupremeCutty Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 i saw that for sale on ebay the other week. Quote
partsmore Posted October 13, 2007 Author Report Posted October 13, 2007 Yes, Daughter bought juiced car w/o hydraulics. There are alot of little things we want to fix, and getting the gauges working is important. Then - I twill become the signature care for AudioForce 12 and 16 volt batteries; and we will ad some subs, etc for the USAC display. I have the temp sender that comes with a connector and the oil pressor sender - but still need to know which wires to connect from the old SWITCH style. Ideas on the coolant level light....? Quote
boulevard Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 I've seen this car around cardomain.com and the internet for a long time now. I also saw it on ebay.com for sale. I thought the idea of the hydraulics was cool in a w-body, it was completely custom, but i would think the front cylinders would leak while the hydralics are in use. The exterior of that car is chopped and shaved. I even remeber that he cut out the trunk spare wheel well. That was a great idea to fit extra batteries. It's nice to hear that someone dedicated bought the car. Sweet! Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 I remember that car! He was here at one point. I think we ripped him a new one and he left in a couple of weeks I like the color but not too much else. sorry.. didn't mean to go off topic. Quote
mediabandit Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 congrats on the purchase. nice to see something out of the ordinary with a w-body. good luck with it, hope it treats you guys well. Quote

SLAMDIT Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 Awww man, too bad the hydros aren't on it. Oh well, it's still a cool car. -Sean Quote

partsmore Posted October 15, 2007 Author Report Posted October 15, 2007 --- The coolant switch has been changed three times, and lite is still on. Im going to try to short the plug out to shut it off. It MUST not match the gauge, or this aftermarket alumium overflow tank doesnt work with the system. DudLee Thanks for the help on the other two, hopefully will have postive report tomorrow am. Quote
partsmore Posted October 15, 2007 Author Report Posted October 15, 2007 I reduced the oil press switch from 3/8 down to a 1" NPT and it plugged right in and gaaue works great, and good oil pressure; and didnt need the $21.00 pigtail! I HAVE SEEN the water temp switch connector, and even with a lift can see the water temp switch on that back head! BACK boys in engeering....! :*) Any suggestions? my arms are already burn and scraped up! Shorted the low level switch across and shut the light off. (I know its full) Installing a new left dron wheel bearing this week, and installing a socket for her cell phone charger --- cig lighter doesn work... and no one is going to smoke in it anyway. Several minor things, but 'bout ready for a little drive....... Wanna install new Bosch +4 spark plugs in it, and guess I'll get to play on that back head again! Thank you all very much for your support and help. Next the daugter is going to trick the interior out in pink, for shows..... and I think she's thinkin Looney tunes as the them for it. Then get her personal plates... "Looney" if available. Kelsey Brennfoerder may be your next competitor (15) Thank you all again! DudLee Quote
