blakngold4life
the other day i was driving on the interstate with the cruise on and the rpms and speed began to jump all over the place, so i thought it was just a hose and would worry about it later. Today (my next trip since the past experiance) the speedometer begain twitching around 20 mph though i was going 50, and was all over the place the rest of the trip. My RPM's seemed consistant, although higher than usual, which is when i realized overdrive wasnt kicking in. Later on (same trip) I went to accelerate, which is one thing the car had not had a problem with previously, and the engine roared as if it were in neutral, although it was in drive, after letting off and punching it again it accelerated slowly. I tried to manualy shift from first to second after a stop and the response was better, but not what i used to be. the acceleration problem from a stop resembles the same effects as when i had a bad coilpack a few weeks ago. the only engine mods i have right now are a 60V6 chip and air filter, might remove the chip and see if that changes anything tomorrow. I also just replaced the spark plugs with Bosch Platinum (i know, i read that i shouldnt do this about an hour after i had them in) probably a little over 300 miles ago.Just did an oil change last week, My dad looked at the trans fluid and said it had metal in it if anyone has a similer experiance or an idea of what is up please let me know. 89SupremeCutty
i had a similar experiance with metal inside a tranny. but it was with a caravan and i had to manually shift it through the gears as the bands were toast. it sounded cool though cause it howled like it had a diff from a school bus or semi. and it made grinding noise when i shifted the gears. and yes it was auto. the tranny fluid actually looked like a cool dark red metal flake paint lol. anyways it sounds like you have tranny probs. was the car doing this stuff prior to the chip install? or did it just start happening, like maybe a day or 2 after the install? did your dad say that the trans fluid smelled burnt or was a brown-ish color? tranny might be toast. also what's the year/make/model/mileage? Andrew
i bet he has a TGP. its sounds like 2 different problems to me. when you mention the guages going all wacky, thats usually an indication of a alternator going bad. metal flakes in trans fluid is very bad. might as well plan on rebuilding it, cuz its gonna blow soon. replace the torque converter while you are there too. blakngold4life
the chip has been in for about a year, so im pretty sure that isnt the the problem. but thats one of the easier things to check is why i thought about removing it (with all intent to put it back in). blakngold4life
took the car in to the shop the other day for them to look. they said it was the speed sensor for the speedometer causing the car not to know how fast it is going leading to gears changing at the wrong time. ns87
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if it is a TGP then the computer does not control the shift points
