MikeP2389
Im going to be putting a new oxygen sensor in my car(3100) this weekend. I was wondering if you guys think borg warner is a good brand sensor because thats what im going to get. Also do all i have to do is rock the engine forward and get a 7/8" wrench and un tighten it and install the new one. thanks
ns87
I've never worked on the 3100, but everything in your post sounds good!
1990lumina
I just used a boxed end wrench on the sensor too which worked fine..however you can rent or buy a special O2 sensor socket that makes it easier if the sensor is really stuck into the manifold. Running the motor for a few minutes to warm the manifold will help free the sensor too.
MikeP2389
thanks guys.. i wonder if advance will let me rent that socket
Brian P
No no Borg Warner sensors are absolute garbage! The ones that even WORK out of the box might last you a year or so. For the minimal extra cost, do yourself a favor and pick up a Delco, or Denso. I think I'd even say take Bosch over Borg warner but I won't say that. Bosch O2's tend to be lazy and wreak havoc on (some) GM's.

MikeP2389
sadly no one around here carries ac delco sensors. so now i either have to get a bosch one or a Standard motor products one. which one is better. autozone says they have to special order the denso one and i dont wanna wait a week. are bosch o2 sensors really that bad? ShockTherapy
yes, they're THAT bad.
19Cutlass94
yes bosch are that bad. The only good ones that they make are the WBO2... why cant you wait a week?
MikeP2389
lol im impatient. how about the standard motor parts oxygen sensor that advance sells?
rockfangd
SMP sucks and Bosch is even worse. My sensor was a pita on my 300 because i recently installed all new motor mounts and i recently changed my o2 sensor with a bosch and now it is worse than before. get it off rockauto and save time and money

MikeP2389
so i went out and bought an o2 sensor socket today. btw i ended up ordering the delco from rock auto and its coming in on monday. i went home let the car cool down for like 10mins and then rotated the engine to see if id even be able to get the sensor out. well i couldnt even get it to budge. the socket just sort of slid, so i stopped because i didnt want to strip the threads. is it because the engine was still too hot?? or should i try using some wd40 or pb blaster? i really wanna get this thing out. hey rockfangd wanna help me out since we both live in utica hahah thanks
ns87
it should be easy. I never have an easy time with my car, and it even took me less than 10 minutes
1990lumina
It helps if the pipe is warm...dunno if you want it HOT though. And yes, put some pententrate shit on there and let it soak in to free things up. Mine came out with ease but I figure it has been replaced before too. MikeP2389
yea i also bought a 7/8 combination wrench, but it is huge so i hope i have some clearance has anyone had luck with the wrench before?
1990lumina
That is how I did mine, with a 12 point boxed end combo wrench, worked fine.
