1990lumina
Hey, my converter has been stinking like crazy lately, and I think it's time I do something about it. My car needs the converter removed, and a new muffler. What is the cheapest route I can go and still have the car somewhat quiet (I hate the annoying as hell raspy exhausts..I know the 60degree6s are notourious for it though.) Anyways, no emissions checking or testing here, so I don't have to put a converter back on. Is it cheaper to install a resonator in it's place, or something to quiet the exhaust down? Also, I need a cheap muffler to replace my rotted out factory one - suggestions? I don't want any expensive flowmasters or anything..but I don't want an annoying tone in the exhaist either. Thanks forsome tips and advice. I need to get this done somewhat soon, and as cheap as I can. I thought about just welding a pipe in the place of the converter..but I think that'll just make the exhaust unbearablely loud.
19Cutlass94
Well without a cat, youll get rasp. A cat helps control that more than a resonator. A resonator basically just quiets the system down. If you want a good/quiet system, go with a normal cat, and just get a real good muffler that will quiet it down some. 1990lumina
So the cat will quiet it down more so than a resonator? Like if I just get a resonator installed where the cat goes will it make a huge difference, or am I better off installing a new cat and be done with it? White93z34
i have a cat, then a resonator, then some aftermarket magnaflow ripoffs, and with that i have no rasp at all. i'm sure it is awful for flow, but damn I hate that rasp. Andrew
a new cat is cheaper than a resonator(well, a decent resonator anyway) so why not just replace it and feel good knowing you are helping to save the enviroment!? http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-Browse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2006218/p-2006218/N-111+10201+600012680/c-10101
1990lumina
Oh ok..I always thought resonator would be more expensive. I guess I will just replace with a cheap cat or some sort and a half decent muffler. I hope my piping is okay still as far as being able to be welded. 93CutlassSupreme
I say cut that shit out. Cat's arn't much, less than a hundey. A glasspack used as a resonator is $20.
