gmrulz4u Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Since early June, my Cutlass has been making a "squeaking" sound every time I went over a bump. Sometimes it was so bad it almost sounded like it was coming from inside the car!! Anyways, it's coming from the rear/passenger side. In March I had New KYB-GR2 struts and New strut mounts installed in the rear, so I can't see how the MOST recommended strut on this entire board would go BAD in only 3 months!!?? My mechanic listened to the sound just for a few minutes and said it definately sounds like the strut itself. I'm going back in an hour to have the car lifted to see what's going on underneath. Oh yeah, today it rained where I live, and the noise was completely GONE until it dried-up again!!!?? So at first my mechanic said, it's probably something rubber, because only rubber parts would become quite when moist/wet. But now after listening briefly, he says it sounds like the strut!?? So, please tell me it's NOT my strut!!! Anyone? THANKS! Quote
brian89gp Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 The KYB's on my old car squeeked horribly after only 4-5 months of use. Worse comes to worse they have a lifetime warrenty. Quote
mdelorie Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Same deal for me. I figured it was something rubber. Quote
patgizz Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 my buddy works @ the parts store, you wouldnt believe how many shocks and struts come back bad either right out of the box or within a couple months. Quote
mdelorie Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Thing about mine, is that they still dampen, they just make noise. Quote
gmrulz4u Posted July 7, 2003 Author Report Posted July 7, 2003 So BESIDES struts, what the hell else can cause "squeaking" sounds in the rear suspension?? Nothing?? Quote
Guest RedCutlassSL Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 bushings, say it with me again, bushings Quote
gmrulz4u Posted July 8, 2003 Author Report Posted July 8, 2003 bushings, say it with me again, bushings And which bushings are these you're referring to exactly?? Would they cause "squeaking" from an up-and-down movement?? If it is my strut, I don't understand why rain/wetness makes the sound go completely away!?? Quote
mdelorie Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Valium, say it with me again... Valium If you're such a pro on the topic, how about you be helpful and tell us WHICH bushings ought to be replaced. Quote
brian89gp Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Squirt some air tool oil on the strut shaft and see if the squeek goes away. The only thing I could figure was that the shaft dried up and the top wiper seal on the strut is squeeking. Quote
mfewtrail Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 what kind of condition is the mono-leaf in? I've experienced a LOUD popping from one when mine went bad and it seemed to squeek a tad from time to time. Quote
