temp gauge gone on the fritz

ok, i put the digital dash in my 92 c/s a few monthys back, but did not as yet change the water or oil sending units.

Yesterday, the water temp gauge is pegged, but the water temp is only 150 degrees.

I unplugged the wire to the sensor, and same result.

Is the (idiot light)sending unit a normally closed switch?

The temp gauge switch is a rheostat, always closed, so why do I still get a hot engine indication?

any thoughts?

i put a UB3 in my cutlass, and no water temp gauge problems oil, on the other hand, i still need so switch out the sensor
