Hootymo
i cannot get the one of my rear calipers off, and my parking brake is definitely not on. anyone have any suggestions at all? i tried a torch already, lots of WD-40, but those bolts will not budge. i got the drivers side caliper off without a hassle but the other caliper just will not budge. neither of the bolts will move. any suggestions at all? im desperate, one of my pads on that caliper is completely gone and the rotors are screwed now. also does anyone have the exact size that those bolt heads are? (just so i know im using the right size socket) oh and its the passenger side caliper that is the problem. thanks in advance!
Slade901
Use a breaker bar and a long bar for a lever. Sometimes my breaker bar will almost bend itself so I just use the biggest rachet I got and an extension bar like the 4 way lug nut wrench and I'm successful that way and they don't bend. GnatGoSplat
They are 18mm bolts. I'm sure you're not doing this, but I'll throw it out there anyway: Make sure you're turning them the right direction if you're using an open/box wrench. If you had to push down on the left side, you'll have to pull up on the right side. I usually just put my box end wrench on the bolt and pound away with a big hammer. That usually does the trick. lukee1982
What i do is put a piece of 2 inch thick walled pipe over my 1/2 drive ratchet. I have a 2 ft long and a 3 ft long piece which ever one will work and have enough hand room. I have also used a a 2x4 and a box end wrench b4 sometype of leverage will get it off
Hootymo
how can i get the top bolt off? everything is in the way... i can only use an open ended wrench im guessing? and for the bottom bolt, how can i manage to get the leaf spring thing out of the way so the ratchet doesnt have to go onto the bolt on an angle? Baddflash
You should be able to get a rachet and 18mm shallow socket on the bottom without to much trouble try 3/8" drive if using 1/2". If you take off the bracket that holds the brake line it sould get you a bit more room but not much, you'll need and 18mm wrench you might have to buy one; I did. I usually just get a wrench on them and strike the end, also another wrench works good as a snipe. Heat won't do any good cause you can't get to where you need to and if you heat the bolts you'll probably just ruin the slider gaskets if they're any good. Let us know how you make out. Hootymo
whats liquid wrench?
supreme_style21
I love brakes. Liquid wrench is a penatrating lubricant (not for human uses) :? . I used some heavy duty lubricant and let 'er soak overnight.. that did the trick.

lukee1982
will WD-40 work? it may it isn't very good though. O would say if you croil (sp) or something like pb blaster but you can try some wd-40. I hardly ever use it for anything other than starting the lawn mower
