sclary18 Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 So after a couple hours of work, I created a COLD RAM air intake without relocating anything! I removed the air box and ran the pipe under the dogbonel, behind the radiator and down below the motor. heres the pics, tell me what you think! works well! Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 watch out for the puddles... last thing you need is hydrolock... Quote
Psych0matt Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 watch out for the puddles... last thing you need is hydrolock... I want to do something similar on the GP, but I don't know how much I like having it that low, in case of rain or what have you Quote
per0781 Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 constructive criticism: you're going to have to remove the intake to rotate the motor forward? you're blocking the cooling fans hello heat soak from the exhaust manifold and as mentioned before, hydrolock Quote
SigEpCutlass Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 Looks great! I guess you probably didn't want to have to cut away at metal to do a FWI. Frankly, I don't blame you one bit. Quote
xtremerevolution Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 Is hydrolock really going to be that much of an issue? Mine is sitting about as low to the ground as his is, and the whole filter would have to be submerged under water in order for the water to get sucked up. I doubt a 3.1 will suck up water fast enough to get up those pipes and into the intake. I've driven my car with the FWI where the filter sits inside the front left bumper corner in extremely heavy rain and I haven't yet had a single problem. As long as the filter isn't submerged in water, you shouldn't be pulling any of it up. You need a LOT of air velocity to pull air upward through a pipe. Quote
Euro Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 Isn't there supposed to be minimal bends in the intake tube? Quote
slick Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 Isn't there supposed to be minimal bends in the intake tube? There will be friction loss, yes, but on these engines, it's not enough to really make much of a difference. Quote
BXX Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 That intake is junk, sorry to say man... But it is gonna cause more problems than it is worth, especially since it looks like you hit up AutoZone for some Spectre plastic intake pieces. Heat soak is the worse of your problems, then other, is the fact the bends are causing it to be more restrictive than the stock Here's a pic of mine, and no, nothing was relocated except the washer resovoir is now mounted 90* from where it was. Yeah, it's not in the picture. And yes, my battery fits fine. Quote
xtremerevolution Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 Where'd you get that intake pipe? Quote
BXX Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 LOL, let me find the link, you will prolly laugh your ass off... Note: I only paid $10 for it from a friend who originally bought it. Quote
xtremerevolution Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 LOL, let me find the link, you will prolly laugh your ass off... Note: I only paid $20 for it from a friend who originally bought it. lol, I don't really mind. That looks like it would work a ton better than what I'm using now. Mine is like one of those kids bendy straws, all ridged inside. I would imagine a smooth intake surface would be ideal. Quote
BXX Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 Ok, this is what it is, with just a few sections hacked off. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/00-05-ECLIPSE-GS-RS-4-CYL-COLD-AIR-INTAKE-01-02-03-04_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38634QQihZ012QQitemZ220155499333QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Quote
BXX Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 I was gonna use the other pipe to mount the filter lower, but haven't felt like doing it. Quote
xtremerevolution Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 What's the size of the intake pipe? Is it 3.0 or 2.5 inches? Quote
BXX Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 2.5..... The mainb reason I haven't done much with it... I really want 3" Quote
xtremerevolution Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 2.5..... The mainb reason I haven't done much with it... I really want 3" Ah ok. I want something like that in a 3" tube. LOL @ $20 intake kit btw. What did you pay for the pipe, $5? Quote
BXX Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 I actually bought it off my friend for $10... Believe it or not, there was quite a noticeable difference over stock.. Soon I am gonna buy one of those cheap 3" intercooler pipe kits off ebay and fabbed up a better design. And of course, it's cost like $60 and I will have tons of pipe left over Quote

BXX Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 Well I hope to make at least 2 from a large kit... Quote
per0781 Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 don't go to 3 inches. it's too big. you'll be slowing down the air velocity. plus your maf and throttle body aren't 75 mm, which is 3 inches. Quote
dohc v6 Posted October 3, 2007 Report Posted October 3, 2007 I am desiging a cold air for the 3100 right now. It should look pretty good once its done. Quote

Um, my stock MAF takes a 3 1/8" coupler I am gonna do the 3" and test it and see how it goes... Hopefully I will be able to get some dyno time and test the stock, 2 1/2", and 3" designs Quote
