sl3196
It went out in the gtp. Got the old one out really easy but the new assembly wont let me push it down far enough so i can get the snap ring to hold it in place. Anybody have tips for this?? Thanks
rockfangd
this may sound stupid but is the tab lined up with the tank. also check how the level is sitting because everything should go in decent. you will have tension though because of the spring mechanism in the sending unit but thats all
sl3196
Yeah I made sure the little tab is lined up. Its like the spring has a little too much tension. I tried readjusting it a few differant ways and still cant get it in far enough.
rockfangd
weird. is the pump in the sending unit all the way, also is the sock secured properly?
sl3196
Well got it in finally, ended up using the old seal. I oiled the new one and still couldnt press it down far enough. Runs great now anyway.
5speedz34
Fuel Pump's can be a huge bitch to get down.
sl3196
At least there is a nice access panel in the trunk. Dropping the tank would have really sucked.

99RegalGS
I just sat in my back seat and pushed down on it. It's a MUCH better angle then trying to do it when you're reaching into the trunk.
sl3196
Ya i did the whole thing in the back seat. I pushed as hard as i could and still couldn't get it all the way down with the new o-ring.
slick
That big ass o-ring can be a bitch. I know I was having a good time doing it on the red Intrigue me and Rob sold. The old one would go in and out easy, but the newer pumps o-ring seemed larger.
rockfangd
yeah i have seen that before, it almost looks like it is going to push out the side lol. i have fought with quite a few and usually get the new one to work sooner or later

I think I'd take the gas tank straps any day of the week!

I think I'd take the gas tank straps any day of the week! You've obviously never seen the underbody of a 15 year old Michigan car. I'm positive my gas tank straps are rusted on. There's no way in hell those bolts are going to turn without breaking. Drilling out those holes while on my back isn't my idea of fun. Plus, you have to fuck with the rear suspension too. Or. Pull 4 bed bolts, that USUALLY arn't as rusted as underbody, gas tank strap bolts.
