xtremerevolution
I ordered these rotors a couple weeks back and they just arrived: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=EBC%2DGD7075&N=700+4294908256+4294908243+4294924755+4294922533+4294859634+400528+115&autoview=sku I was actually kinda surprised when I got them, because they really are completely black. I wanted the plated ones so they won't look like they're rusting all the time. Anyways, the instructions on the rotors say that you MUST use brand new brake pads with the rotors. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what kind of pads I should use? I've been given the impression that Ceramic brake pads are much better, though I'd like to hear what everyone else has to say. So far I've found these EBC pads for street and track use, but they seem to be quite expensive and I'm not sure how fast they will wear out. http://www.placeforbrakes.com/product.php?pk=1630&cmk=30117&car_year=1995&avail=1 These seem to be more of what I'm looking for. http://www.placeforbrakes.com/product.php?pk=1629&cmk=30117&car_year=1995&avail=1 The rotor papers say that for track use I should use either the Yellow or the Red EBC pads. I'd like to get one of those, but I'm wondering if its really worth it to get the yellow ones, or if I should just get the red ones. Also, are the EBC pads even necessary? I could just as well drop by a Napa or AutoZone and pick up some ceramic brake pads and not have to worry about shipping.
pwmin
those rotors and the red stuff pads are exactly what im going to get for my 91.
Euro
yeah I was going to suggest EBC pads like a few people have on here.
xtremerevolution
yeah I was going to suggest EBC pads like a few people have on here. Hmm, I'll think about it. I want those rotors installed before this weekend's Northern IL meet, and I doubt I'll be able to have them shipped to my girlfriend's house on time for that. I'll probably go to a Napa, AutoZone, Murray's, or Advance Auto for whatever is the best ceramic pad they have. Does anyone have any recommendations on a particular brand of ceramic pad from one of those stores? Thanks.
Euro
I have Bendix ceramics on all 4's and they're pretty nice. They dust though, not too much, but enough for my OCD self to notice and irritate me.
pwmin
i would just get some silvers from advance until you get the ebc pads in if you need it that badly. idk, bendix ceramics didnt last very long in my riviera, but its a heavy bitch. Euro
Yeah Bendix's are expensive mofo's...I'd just get one of the cheapest til you get the EBC's
Mach 5
Will the yellow fit on my 89 GP? I was wondering because even though the green stuff are good, they still get hot behind my rims and can fade with repeated heavy breaking. -My recommendation- EBC Green Stuff for daily driving but will work under heavier loads if wheels are well vented. I have almost 10,000 miles on these on the GP and Im happy-just not for racing usage. I also have these on a 99 volkswagen passat with no problems -Do not get these- Duralast gold. In my experience, within 500 miles these pads glazed up and glazed the rotor as well as breaking was horrible. Couldn't stop for anything. I even broke them in nice and easy. digitaloutsider
I've beat the shit out of my Green Stuff's and my only complaint is the insane amount of dusting. They don't fade, they always grip, and I couldn't be happier. The pad life seems to be really nice too.
slick
I can say that I've only heard good about EBC, minus the amount of brake dust. The red's should be more than sufficient.
Andrew
if you buy from a local store, I'd recommend Raybestos Quiet Stop. otherwise, get the EBC red stuff. http://extranet.raybestos.com/usa/features/brakepadsqs.htm
xtremerevolution
Anyone heard anything about Bendix brakes?
Mach 5
The greens do work good, I ain't gonna say they don't but, for me with the poor venting at the wheel-rotors are cross drilled and slotted- they fade a ton faster. xtremerevolution
Anyone heard anything about Bendix brakes? Good stuff, but really expensive. Hmm, ok. I needed to get those brakes done ASAP so I ordered some super premium Bendix brake pads from an Advance Auto. I'll let you guys know what they are exactly when I pick them up later today. 93CutlassSupreme
I can't tell you what the best pad is, but I can tell you... Ceramic is bad. Ceramic pads don't stop for shit when they're cold, and they tear the hell out of rotors. They are extremely hard. I had a set of Bosch Ceramic pads that looked brand new after 6 months of usage. My rotors were warped and grooved to shit however.
