alright, basic question, is there any difference between a 95 gtp 4t60-e transmission and a 96 buick park av 4t60-e trans other then the different gear ratios?, i just rebuilt the 3.4l in my grand prix only to have the trans fail no more then 3k later (i belive we screwed up putting in the motor and broke the trans pump) but as luck would have it my nephew crashed a 96 buick with a rebuilt trans (less then 5k) and ive got the drivetrain from it now, the buick did have a 3800 series 2

im looking to swap the transmissions, and just use a speedo adjuster to fix the speedometer problems due to the gear ratios

you belive the round plug in at the trans case might be different? from just a quick visual the speed sensors look the same, i never thought about the other electronics, guess i just figured 4t60e was a 4t60e, i was slightly worried about the trans not bolting to the motor, but im seeing that gm must have used a standard bolt patteren? also which torque converter would you use? im gussing they have different stall speeds

Yes, pretty much all FWD GM vehicles share the same pattern.

Here's all the 4t60-e knowledge, broken down by section. As far as the stall go's, the one in the 3.4 should be higher than the one in the park avenue, but there are certain id's on the external of the trans that can verify this.

I'll keep looking to see if I can find the torque convertor information. IIRC, there were between 10-15 stall's of torque convertor's actually used.

The only other thing I would keep in mind is the actual trans mount. The Park Ave is an H/G body, where-as the Grand Prix is a W-body. I'm not totally sure on this issue.

I think you need to worry about 95 being OBD 1.5 and 96 being OBD2....I'm not sure what the differences are in the tranniesw, but something you might want to think about!

Shouldn't be much to worry about there. Lots of guys are swapping from obd1.2 to obd2 without having to swap trannies. In fact, a few are running unmodified obd2 ecu's with 5 speeds.

i did notice that the buick had what looked like a dog bone mount on the passengers side extention housing (gussing thats what you would call it, by the pass cv shaft) and my grand prix has a totally different looking mount, i figured i would be able to swap mounts, and yeah im going to have to search for wiring diagrams on the 96 to 95 trans plug wiring, im hoping they are the same... i figured that the obd2 would just be emmissions and trans controller (pcm software) not have anything to due with trans internals. maybe i can repin the gtps plug in

so the only really unsure part is the mount on the passengers side? the other mounts looked very similar if not identical to the gtps mounts, (this is comming from me pulling the engine almost 3 months ago, so its not super fresh) im a good welder, so if mounts need to be modified, well, fabrication it is then
