Boostedprix
I got a 90 Turbo Grand Prix a few years back and just have had it sitting in my garage for long time tryin to work out some kinks. One was that when u really got on it about 3k Rpm it would jerk realy hard like loosing spark but come right back. Found one of the conectors loose at the ign module. Thanks to Shawns website i got my low fuel light and check gauges off today. When i bought this car someone had welded one of the dog bone brackets to the radiator support. Turns out when u put the thing in reverse the dog bone and bracket comes up and hits the hood like tranny is going into reverse to hard(thus the welds cause it must have broke bolts). After lookin around at mounts and other vehicles i seem to be missing a trans mount that goes from the passenger output housing to the subfram. So after all that my question is, is there supposed to be a mount there? Is it that my radiator support is just weak or that tranny is just shifting way to hard? cant really find the info i want off the internet and dealership doesnt seen to show a mount or bracket there. That is the only place i dont c any support though. Any help would be greatly apreciated. Ill try and get the vin and stuff for the database when i can
Psych0matt
there should be a mount on both sides of the engine, left and right. and if it's really shifting that hard, even with a second mount, your tranny may be on the way out. I noticed that mine shifts into reverse extremely hard, but I knew when I bought it that a new tranny needed to be put in (which I have in the garage). Mine's only been running for a day though, so
Boostedprix
It has both mounts left above the tranny and one right below the crank on the passenger side but wondering if there is supposed to be 2 on the passenger side one for motor and one for tranny? krenzy
As far as I'm aware, there are 4 mounts total: 1) Lower engine mount, passenger's side 2) Lower Transmission Mount, driver's side 3 and 4) Upper Dogbone Mounts If I'm wrong and there are more, some please correct me, but these are the only ones I'm aware of. Garrett Powered
yes there is two under and two torque mounts. usually when you get a TGP you just replace the tranny and motor support mounts before you even start it for the first time. this is because you can almost count on them being blown. as for the torsion mounts, they need some kind of rubber suspension in there. you can firm them up with washers. the two lower mounts will last longer if you throw in a new distributer gear o-ring. otherwise the oil will just kill them again and you will be pissed. and when you change your oil, stuff an old t-shirt between the motor and the subframe otherwise when you spin off the filter it will soak the motor mount and blow it out. if you get oil on it, splash it with a big cup of dr.pepper or coke or dust it with sawdust.
