Thats what I think too but someone told me that you have to turn the key to on and press the accelerator or something like that. I think he's full of crap that's why I'm asking if you guys had heard of that.

Just curious' date=' how would you do the idle relearn on Manual Trans? Is it even needed?

[/quote']

Let it run for the 5-7 minutes with the clutch in in neutral? Idle relearn isn't really necessary - the car will learn it eventually after X number of miles travelled.

I don't know what you would need to do....but having the clutch in or being in neutral would be the same thing to the car. The computer won't recognize the clutch being pushed in....

  • 5 years later...

The link to the "Idle Relearn" thread posted above is dead, and searching netted no clearr result. Is that old topic at a new link or could someone let me know the idle re-learn procedure for the 1st gen W (1993 lumina euro coupe)?

EDIT: I found this post: http://www.w-body.com/showthread.php/75942-Simple-Question-Simple-Poll-Idle-Relearn-92-GP-3-1-(OBDI)-Y-N?p=1148673&viewfull=1#post1148673 but it says that that particular method is only for 91-92 W bodies.

Thanks,

-Charlie

i'll summarize what i remember: start the car, let it warm up in gear until the 1st cooling fan comes on, when the fan goes off, shift into park, wait a few seconds, shut the key off. wait ~10 seconds, turn the car back on, do the process again.

you can just drive the car and it will learn that way as well. in fact, the ECM is in a constant state of learning. every time you start the engine and get up to full operating temperature, it relearns the minimum IAC position to allow the engine to idle where it should. there are limits to how far it can learn with every keycycle though, which is why it is recommended to do the warm-up procedure twice.
