TGP Z-34 STE
I bought 1991 Grand Prix GTP with 5 sp manual tranny. Last week. It isnt driveable. (Have to tow car to home) Here's what I need help to solve the tranny's issue. Put gear position in "N" and I can start the car. When I push clutch pedal. Car will start and running. I try to put shift in 1 gear ( or any gears). It couldnt go in there. Turn engine off and I can put shift in any gear I wants to. Put shift in 1 gear and push clutch pedal (full the way). Then I trying to start the car and couldnt do that, car will roll, or motor crank wont turn over. Here's what happen, Clutch still stuck to Flywheel and wont let go. People said possible be three things that cause the promblem. 1. Need new Slave Cylinder 2. Need new Clutch 3. Need to Bleed Ofc, I'm trying Bleed first! And I couldnt find where to bleed. I even check under dashboard where pedals at. Couldnt find there too. Anybody can tell me how to BLEED? I am not sure with slave cylinder can it be clean? fix able? What do I have to do to remove/install slave cylinder? Any qeustion please ask! Thanks!
White93z34
most importantly how does the clutch pedel feel? also, there is no real way to "bleed" the slave cyl so to speek, if you use a hydraulic line disconnect tool you can disconnect the slave from the master cyl (at that goofy actuator assembly) and bleed the master cyl from there... i could photograph that page out of my factory service manual for that. if the slave cyl is indeed bad (mine was) it is a pricy piece to replace, (almost $400 GM list!) also the slave cyl is NOT possable to bleed, there is no bleeder, i heard a mess of conflicting storys about this, and in the end, i was far better off buying the ready-to-install assembly straight from my dealer. the slave cyl is held on by i believe 4 13 or 15 mm bolts/nuts. 2 bolts that hold the actuator to the trans casing, and 2 nuts that hold the slave to the casing. from what you describe the clutch is totally cooked, i would get a clutch kit, and get your flywheel resurfaced, put it back together and see where that gets you. TGP Z-34 STE
if you use a hydraulic line disconnect tool you can disconnect the slave from the master cyl - Where could I find that tool? i could photograph that page out of my factory service manual for that. - Yeah, I would like to see, thanks! the slave cyl is held on by i believe 4 13 or 15 mm bolts/nuts. 2 bolts that hold the actuator to the trans casing, and 2 nuts that hold the slave to the casing. - Can I take slave cyl off during tranny still on the car and connect to motor? For Clutch.. maybe I should take tranny out for once n all. Seem like it have bad gasket on shaft to tranny, there's fluid leaking. Will check more. White93z34
i honestly have no idea where to find this tool, might want to try NAPA and see if they can order it, a friend of mine got it from some obscure parts reasler.... or here is one on ebay.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Hydraulic-Clutch-Line-Disconnect-tool-GM_W0QQitemZ160160159545QQihZ006QQcategoryZ35625QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Can I take slave cyl off during tranny still on the car and connect to motor? i do not know what you mean... any clutch fluid leaking is a problem, can you tell where? pwmin
sounds exactly what was happening when my throwout bearing wasnt locked into the ring that holds it to the pressure plate. in that case, you will need a new clutch as you cant just get a t/o. theres a few options. you can sorta bleed just the slave cylinder. you can pull the slave off the tranny and let it sit there, which is what i think youre asking, but be very careful not to crack the slave. yes, its safer to replace the whole thing, but can you just replace the slave: possibly. i was able to, but sometimes you wont get that lucky. only way to bleed the system is to pump up the clutch pedal, then pry the fork back w/ a pry bar (just remove the rubber cover above the slave.
