oil pump drive seal

My car is leaking oil terribly from the damn oil pump drive seal, like a quart a day if not more. and i looked on 60degreev6 and they had this thread about how to fix it. http://60degreev6.com/showthread.php?t=37004

When i tried to do this for some reason there wasnt nearly enough room to get the god forsaken thing out. So i tried cleaning it as best i could, its really fucking hard to reach. I then siliconed the hell out of it. it would hold for like a month then leak again. Ive tried fixing this about three times now. I know i should just do it the right way but since my brothers car is in the shop, pretty much as soon as i come home from work, he has to take my car to go to work. so i dont have a lot of time. Is there a reason why i cant get the damn thing out. Or is there another simple way to try and fix it?

You can't take it out with the 3.4. Not without removing the rear head (or somehow hacking the head/drive cover.. but I never thought that sounded like a good idea).

Get an old Chevy distributor gasket, slice it and fish it in under there after cleaning the shit out of it with Brakleen. Use Hi-Temp silicone sealer. The regular RTV breaks down under heat. Seal it liberally, spin it around to make sure the gasket is covered. Tighten it up and don't run it for at least 24 hours. I did it that way on my wife's old Lumina 3.4 and it was dry for three years up when she traded it in.

Try it, you'll like it.

didn't you do a write up of that or something? I dunno, but I should do that before winter, oil spots on the driveway will probably annoy my landlord when he moves back in next year when we leave

I actually tried putting the mag light gasket in there. That worked for a little longer but it is again leaking. I think i might have an LIM leak so im just gonna change that, maybe the head gasket, and the UIM. I figured since i was gonna have shit ripped apart i might as well just change it the right way.

I posted this a couple of times, but never did an actual write up on it.

Hey, if you're gonna pull the heads to do the head gaskets, might as well do it the correct way.
