chadz34
I am about to order a set of 8mm Magnecor wires and I was wondering what everyones thought is? I paid over 200 for the set I have on the car which are OEM so, I figure since I plan on modding my engine, why not go for a bigger plug wire? I know of people that have them on there DOHC and have no mods...so thats not an issue. Over the winter my car will see some serious change and I cant wait to show you guys! ...........flip the switch!

ManicMechanic
Ah, that would explain it...i think the wires for the 1994 LQ1 I worked on were $50.
chadz34
Ah, that would explain it...i think the wires for the 1994 LQ1 I worked on were $50. I WISH! haha If plug wires were 50 bucks here....I could imagine how cheap a transmission rebuild would be. Here in Canada everything is a rip off especially in Ontario....on top of that guess how much my insurace is for my 96 Lumina.......319 BUCKS PER MONTH! Try doing that and fixing the car at the same time. Never been in a wreck or got a ticket and I'm 19 with drivers training certificate how fair is that? slick
Your not gonna see any gain over a larger set of wires. Really... the stock ignition system is good for a ton of power. But... the larger wire does look better!
pwmin
taylor makes 8mm wires for the DOHC and are much cheaper. http://www.taylorvertex.com/Products/pdfs/applicationGuide.pdf i might have gotten them if i would have known about them. MOST seriously modded w's make what, less than 300 horsepower? like I said, a frivious expense, like teflon fabric protection or undercoating ever see a budget engine buildup? Most stock electronic ignition systems can support decent horsepower.

If I'm putting that much money into an engine, you better believe that I'm going to upgrade the wires; A: to look better and B: I'd much rather put upgraded wires then some aftermarket OEM-wannabe crap. I remember during Slick's engine harness swap, one of his MSD plug boots was fried to shit, on a stock engine. once again, i've never seen or heard of stock electronic ignitions not being capable of handling moderate horsepower street engines. joey b
Well, the plug wires for the LQ1 are just over 100 bucks for the shitty, replace in 1 year design. 200 bucks (canadian) for magnecors is well worth the money.

LQ1 AC Delco plug wires only last one year? on any GM engine i've had experience with, AC Delco wires have very long lives

5speedz34
I think I spent about $100 on Napa's premium ones. Like I said before Delco has some of the best stuff out there.

pwmin
oh, its for your 96. i first heard about them on CGP in the "first gen" section, so you might wanna search there and see if anyone got them for a 96. ultrarev.com and apexperformance.net were the cheapest places i found magnecors. i ordered a set for the 96 apex and the 91 from ultrarev, iirc. theyre only about 100 plus shipping for the 96s. my cost is about the same for ac delco (and 200 from partsamerica for a regular account). chadz34
My favourite part about apexperformance.net is how I get to all the shipping info and find out they only ship to the states....this is fucking bullshit they ARE cheaper.....but thats cause you can only order the fuckin shit to the States....I hate this car, if it had normal wires I could use ANYTHING!? But no....
