rockfangd
ok so everyone has to forgive me for this one because i barely even know really how to explain this one. So for the past 2 weeks i have been having a problem accelerating, when i go from a stop or try to pick up speed the engine seems to bog down bad but the rpms stay the same?? it is completely random. It is almost like driving down the road and losing your transmission for awhile but i have to say i dont think it is the tranny because the rps dont jump up and down. If it helps it climbs hills easily and drives fine, but when this happens i lose speed and i have to ease on the gas. If this makes since to anyone i am all ears. It is a 1994 oldsmobile cutlass supreme, 3100 v6. NO SES light either, and no codes stored, thanks to all in advance
Crazy K
if you are in park/netrual... do you loose power past 1/2 throttle?
rockfangd
i will check on that today
rockfangd
ok so sometimes when it gets to 2500 in park or neutral it seems like it is hitting its limit and it bogs down
GP1138
That may be the rev limiter, though it usually hits at 4500. I'm saying Coilpacks/ICM.
Crazy K
good. we have an engine issue. I want to say TPS. then fuel related.... ie clogged filter, weak pump... or even a bad injector.
rockfangd
ok so the rev limiter kicks in at 4500, it could be the TPS, the fuel filter is about 9 months old, the coil packs are 2 months old.
rockfangd
ok so i think i may be narrowing down this problem to 2 problems, one i know and the other i dont, tonight i was doing 45 and hit the gas and the whole car shook but didnt accelerate, so i thought maybe the TCC and touched the brake, the shaking stopped and it accelerated. I used to have to touch the brake before to accelerate but the car never shook like that. The other thing is when i give it a bit of gas from a stop you can hear popping like a bad miss, all i know is this better be fixed before i have to drive to Albany next week
Crazy K
I curently wish to say..... FUEL PUMP! at least the shuddering transmission sounds like the issue my 93 vert has, and it has gotten bad enough that I was having vapor lock!!!!!!!!!!! next time I see it.... I'm giving it a fuel pump.
LumiDriver
Do me a favor and check ALL under hood fuses (Read: I thought 1st gear was no longer an option in my car, but a 40A IGN SW 2 Fuse was the culprit) My car did the same thing. I could stomp it and it would act like I was towing something.
rockfangd
thats what it does, but when i go from a stop i feel like i am towing a trailer and it bucks, but when i am already going i feel like i have no power
LumiDriver
That seems a bit worse than mine was. Once I got above 25ish, it would run fine, without 1st gear. Seems to be more than just electrical. But have you checked the fuses?
rockfangd
well i am going to check the fuses
rockfangd
ok so i checked all underhood fuses, all tested good but i found out something weird tonight when i tried to test my fuel pressure, the fuel pump test wire did not work why would this be when it has worked before. Anyways when i started the car the pressure was between 39 and 45 which is perfect, and i checked all 3 coil packs, got the shock of my life lol, my hand slipped but it still misses. I couldnt even get up to
pwmin
my wires were arcing through the boots some, enough to shock me a little. if yours shocked you bad, than that could def cause that
rockfangd
no the wires are fine. I was pulling one as my friend started the car lol
pwmin
oh, way to go, slick kinda like on good luck, chuck
rockfangd
ok so i found out why the fuel pump test wire wasnt working, it was because my fuel pump relay must have went bad again. I changed it and now the wire works. Why it would go bad twice in 2 years is beyond me. last time it went bad the car took alot of turning over to get it to fire but ran fine once started, now it was doing just the opposite. I will find out tomorrow if my new one will make a difference am i the only one with this kind of problem lol
Crazy K
well... my 94 is hesitating and stumbling..... when teh check engine light turns on... it runs great. I need to find someway to check the engine light. F---ing OBD 1.
rockfangd
well thats the problem, mine is just the opposite, i have a code scanner but i have no codes stored and the scanner showed no codes
LumiDriver
SEriously, it seems really bad. I would just pay the 50 bucks for a diag at a local shop or something. I had an issue with my van that I couldn't figure out for the life of me, and they fixed it for the 50.
rockfangd
well i work for a shop and i still got nothing. they said drive it till it is worse
hell_raiser
my car was doing the same thing ? lol check for air in your fuel rail there is a cap on it near the power stearing pump take it off and its like a valve stem of a tire push it with something mine was full of air but i just dropped the gas tank too sooo thats what was wrong with mine p.s 3100 on low fuel presser don't like to rev past 2500-3000. now i half to change the filler neck ffs
rockfangd
well when you go to check the fuel pressure at the rail that would purge the air out anyhow
Crazy K
I HAD to unplug the O2 sensor in the 94. it has gone bad and is giving false readings, but the ECM hasn't figured out that it is bad. TRY IT! unplug the O2 (4 wire connector on 94+) and see if it runs better!
