mra32 Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I am currently shopping for tires. I am looking on tire rack and have settled on 2 tires and am looking for experience with either tire or more suggestions for places to get tires cheap. I am leaning toward them since they have cheap prices on tires and will save me a bundle on buying my front struts. First off, I'll be mounting these on crosslaces (16x8) and I'm looking for 225/60 tires The first tire is the Sumitomo HTR+. They are $59/tire and the seem to have decent ratings. The second set is the Kumho Ecsta ASX. These are $69/tire and seem to be a bit above the Sumi's. A friend of mine got a set of these on his highly modified Mark I Rabbit after being pleased with his previous Kumho's. I think its rather worth it to spring for the extra $40 to get the tires that seem better. I will also be checking out the firestone down the street tommorrow. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I can also get a set of Falken Ziex 912's for $330 shipped to my door from Edge Racing. This is a rather good price, and alot of my friends have this tire and from what I hear they are the cats pajamas. But going this route would be about $65 more than the Sumitomo's Opinions? Quote
SigEpCutlass Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 If you can get your hands on some Kumho Solus KH16's, I'd highly recommend them as a good & cheap tire! Quote
pwmin Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 i like my kumhos as well. yeah, me, too, just not the tires Quote
mra32 Posted September 13, 2007 Author Report Posted September 13, 2007 Well i am looking for more performance oriented tires. Today i went to firestone. What a mistake that was. I will never have my shit serviced by any firestone. My friend had a wheel fall off when they guys at the firestone near his parents house didnt put his wheel on tight enough. But anyway, The dude was telling me that I would *have* to have my odometer set just because I was putting new wheels on. He seemed to think that it was impossible to have a very similar if not identical tread diameter with two sets of wheels with different rim diamteters. He also metioned alot of other things that I have already considered as if i were an idiot and hadn't thought about this decision. He was getting me so mad that I just had to leave. The more i think about it, the more I want to put a brick through the window of that place. To top it off its right across the street from my school and I'm looking at the building right now. Not to mention that the guy looked like a total child molester. I would have been scared, had this been a few years ago when I looked younger. I'll probably go with the Kumho Ecsta ASX from tire rack at this point. I'll make sure not to have firestone put the tires on. Quote
Crazy K Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 was the guys name lester???? LOL I say yes to the Kumhos. IIRC, some crotch rocket biker I knew said Sumitumo bike tires tended to pop (????) Otherwise, I like Yokohoma tires. Quote
SigEpCutlass Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 I don't know where in the Philly area you are exactly, but when I lived in Philly I had a good experience with Tires Plus. The locations in Willow Grove and Norristown were always good when I needed something (alignment, tire plugging, etc.). Quote
mra32 Posted September 14, 2007 Author Report Posted September 14, 2007 Well I live in west philly and the firestone I was talking about is at 32nd & Market. Norristown and Willow Grove are a bit out of the way for me. I was thinking that the mounting and balancing could be done at one of those little used tire huts they have all around west philly. I didn't really know that you could have a business selling used tires, and I'm skeptical about them doing the best work, but I figure it should work and there is one right next to my friend's house. This may be a long shot, but has anyone had any experience with a business like this? Quote

Don't use those crappy used tire places...especially if they're anything remotely like the ghetto ones near where I went to school @ La Salle University. I had considered buying a used set of BFGoodrich T/A's (or something similar) with more than 70% tread left off ebay, but then I found the deal on my Kumho's. If you buy used tires, pay someone like Walmart or Pep Boys to mount & balance them so it's done right. Quote
mra32 Posted September 15, 2007 Author Report Posted September 15, 2007 NOOOO.....I dont want to buy used tires from there. I just want them to mount them. Quote

pwmin Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 get some Toyo T1-S tires... not made anymore...replaced by T1-R: supposed to be much better. i love my t1-s. next tires im getting will either be T1-R or Proxes-4, depending if i want a summer tire or more of an all-season. i liked the Mastercraft Avenger LSR's i had on the 96 for more of an all-season. jeremy Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 pwmin....that is damn good to know. I loved the T1-S tires so I might have to give teh T1-Rs a whirl the next time I need some new tires... Quote

I think I'm gonna go to a place called Blatt Tire, just north of center city. I can get Fuzion HRi's for like $72 installed (225/60-16) or Falken Ziex for $99 installed (245/50-16) what should I do?
