sunny_8
So I have an issue with my car, sometimes it does not start untill I turn the key 5 times. I want to replace the starter, read some posts saying its better to get a starter for a different car, and then use it as it has higher torqure and is smaller ? Saw a post that said use a 99 chevy malibu starter. Is this true ? Can I use this and should I do it ? Also how long does it take to do ? I guess take the oil flter off, undo the oil cooler and starter and replace, but not sure, never done one. Also any brands to avoid ? I was going to autozone to get one...figured I would ask.. Thanks,
Crazy K
I would look on e-bay, or get a used one from a wrecked 99 and newer 3x00 car/van. are you sure it is the starter?
joey b
Bet it is related to the antitheft. Does your security light come on?
sunny_8
not sure if its the starter, but I would think it is....no anti theft light.....So what just get the starter for our car ? or a newer 3x00 car ? 93CutlassSupreme
if the starter actually is the problem, why not get the correct one? my Cutlass has 130,000 miles on the original starter
GtipGary
Ive got 110000 on my gp LQ1 and mine does the exact same thing. Most of the time it starts just fine. Then other times i get in and click, click, click, vroom.
Crazy K
I have 223,000 miles on the starter in the 92 vert
slick
Yes, any of the newer 3x00 (3100, 3400) starters should work. Try for 99+ as well, it's smaller and higher torque. Make's getting it back up in there a lot easier.
sunny_8
so what kind of car has the 3100 or 3400 starters ? Anyone been using a specific one ? Thanks,
Psych0matt
I think mine was like an 02 intrigue maybe? was two years ago, so I dont remember.
sunny_8
cool thanks, will pick up a 02 intrigue starter.... Is Autozone ok for this ? or do their starters have too many problems ?
GutlessSupreme
As said, check ebay first, or even your local junkyard. It'll be Genuine GM and a lot cheaper. I got mine off ebay, it came off a 30k mile 05 Impala 3400.
sunny_8
ok then to confirm a 05 Impala and a 02 intrigue will be a replacement for a 95 3.4L DOHC. Correct ?
patgizz
i picked up one on egay off a 2001 lumina for $20 + shipping. they work on the 2.8, 3.1, 3.4, 3100, 3400, blah. i have it on the 91 3.1 in the 94 euro, and i'll probably swipe it over to the TGP shortly. sunny_8
ok well good thing is that they are cheap, I see a 2005 impala 3.4L with only 5 miles on it....so they claim for 50 plus shipping of 15. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/STARTER-2005-IMPALA_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33576QQihZ013QQitemZ230172559147QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V what you guys think ? good to go ? Try for 99+ as 2003 V6 Grand Am 2001 malibu with a 3100 or a 2001 impala with a 3400 Wanna order one today ......thanks,
sunny_8
So I got my new started, off a 05 Impala, 3.4 L engine. Much smaller Bad part is that the post on the solonoid, is broken to some extent. It got damaged shipping, so I put the plastic back on and then jbweld all over it. I hope it does not go into the solonoid.....
sunny_8
installed it and it works ......sounds funny though, a lot deeper sounding than before. And it takes about 2 seconds more to start. Actually it now does sound like an impala starting...
