gpchris
Theres only one part of my frame rail that has some rust on it.. I dont know why the rust attacked that one part.. Anyway here it is: How much do ya think it will cost to fix?? It is past the rear subframe and wheel well, its basically under the trunk. Q-Ball
I'd guess about 100-150. It will have to be cut out and a new patch welded in. Depending if you want it to look like new, it will have to be grinded and re undercoated.
gpchris
No I'd just like it fixed. I plan on completely restoring the frame/body in a few years. I just cant weld right now and I need it fixed.. I'll call around. thankls for the quick response!
5speedz34
I can't tell from the pic. How bad is the rust? Is there a hole? Chances are I would just respot weld a new rail in.
gpchris
yup theres a golf ball sized hole and a decent amount of rusted metal around it.
gpchris
Ok so would it be cheaper and cleaner looking If i went to a yard and chopped that piece out and had them weld it in place??

Yea pretty much IMO. Is that frame piece hollow? I would assume so. Just make sure the new isn't to mangled from removal.
patgizz
if i were doing the repair i'd cut out the bad part back to the nearest good clean metal, in straight lines with square edges. then make up a patch with the brake and weld it in. i'd prefer not to work with something hacked out of a junkyard car because in the long run it would be easier to just make a new patch. example of my work so you understand i'm not talking out of my ass: http://www.impalassforum.com/vBulletin/showthread.php?t=81669
slick
I'm with pat. I'd only cut out what needs repaired.
