SLAMDIT
Hey guys, Last night I wanted to hit the cruise strip since it was perfect convertible weather. The problem was my cutlass was out of commission and Heather's is torn apart right now. So, my Father-In-Law was more than happy to let me take his out. It is a 95 3.4 car wiht a custom caddy red paint job, super clean representation of a Cutlass Convertible. Anyways, we were out and about 30 miles from home. After we got done bs'ing with everyone at the hangout spot we headed for home. The car started kinda hard, like the battery wasn't fully charged, but it fired. Problem was after about a minute of running the battery light came on. With no battery gauge I didn't know if I had 10 minutes or an hour before the car pussed out. I decided to make a run for home. I turned everything that didn't need to be on off and put the top up just in case it quit. It started that when I would accellerate the battery light would go on and off, then as I got closer to home it was on 99% of the time. I ended up getting it back to my shop and pulled it in. Once I turned the car off I tried to restart it just to see what would happen. got nuthin but clicks. In all my experience this cries alternator, anyone disagree? I am gonna fix it for him on Monday but before we go buying parts I thought I would bounce it off you guys. Also, my biggest question.... Is the alternator as burried as I think it is on that car? I am assuming it is gonna be a total PITA to change as those motors are wedged in that engine bay tighter than fat chick's thighs in spandex... but I am at work now and didn't have time to look before I left. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanx guys!! Sean
Crazy K
it cries alternator. you will have to drop the rear of the subframe.... OR remove the wheel and the passenger side drive shaft etc etc.

SLAMDIT
No http://www.w-body.com/forum/index.php/topic,30225.0.html Well, I will go with that route on Monday I guess. That doesn't look too hateful. His Cutlass hasn't seen a winter since he bought it in 2000 so it can't be that bad (I hope). And Slick, if you are reading this...
mediabandit
that is exactly what happened to mine when the alternator went too. and definitely go the way slick said. i did it the way he posted and it was a pretty simple and quick job. 1990lumina
At least you guys got some warning and didn't get stranded...my Lumina's battery light came on, and within 10 seconds the motor stalled out and was stone dead lol

When the damn light came on all I could think was "well, anytime now." At least if I had a gauge I could have made a better decision on wether to call a wrecker or go for it. Especially since it was all highway home and it was after midnight. It was a stressful drive home. -Sean
ManicMechanic
One reason I dislike the '95s is a lack of gauges.
