AWeb80
....at least, I think that is the problem Here is what is done FWI Cat delete about 2500k miles ago plugs/wires have ~10K miles on them 02 sensor has 2K miles air filter cleaned and oiled 2500k miles ago The car ran GREAT during the 1800 mile road trip 3 weeks ago....i've driven it maybe 20 miles since, and then to the body shop a week ago. I picked it up tonight and drove till teh motor was warm back to my garage and when I was 3 blocks away doin ~10 mph, I floored it (like I do many times) and it downshifted fine and rev'd to 3500 fine, but from there to 5k it was verry sluggish... at all the stop lights it idled fine and ran fine till I opened it up.... I then pull up to my garage and put it from drive to reverse and a huge puff of black smoke came out the exhaust.... and the SES light came on.....the shut it off, started it bakc up again, put it in reverse and again a ball of rich fuel came out.... I don't know what is up.....It runs fine off the line, but under WOT, it gets sluggish.....and my exhaust tips are BLACK from the soot. AWeb80
I feel like such a noob...I thought I knew this car inside and out I called kenny, aka, badassoldspower, and he thinks it might be the FPR....?
Bossman429
Could be an open or bad plug wire, sometimes they will work ok at lower speeds but not at higher rpms. Mine have done that in the rain too. It's at least something to consider. It would be real nice to see what the ECM turned on the check engine light for, that's always a good starting point. 1990lumina
If it was the FPR don't they fail externally - fuel all over the motor? Or can they cause too much fuel to be pushed through the fuel rail as well? Does the car start fine?

Does the car start fine? starts and idles fine....and revs fine in gear...under load and WOT over 3k rpm's, is where it struggles....and on startup it puffs a ball of black smoke. DiscoStudd
I wouldn't rule out a bad ICM or one or more coilpack.
BXX
MAF as well.... Especially if the air filter got a tad bit over oil last time.. or the good ol ICM and coilpacks
Brian P
I tried posting this last night before the site went to shit: If it was the FPR don't they fail externally - fuel all over the motor? Or can they cause too much fuel to be pushed through the fuel rail as well? Does the car start fine? That's on 3800's, when they asplode. Most of the time when they fail, they send fuel thru the vacuum line. Couple things to try out: -with the engine running, pull the FPR vac line off and see if any fuel comes out. -when they check for codes, have them look at the readout for the coolant temperature sensor, and intake air temp. Make sure they're both normal range. The code might be useless to you (like rich condition detected, dur!!) -Check MAP sensor, see if the readout does anything flaky (freeze up, etc)
AWeb80
its wierd the engine would do this now...but I guess 20 miles on it after a 1800 mile road trip is better than being 800 miles from home...LOL

1990lumina
What'd you figure out? I'm currently working on my Millenia and I got it to throw a P1250 code at me today - Pressure Regulator Circuit Solenoid Malfunction, so I could have a few things wrong in my case. I'm shooting out from decent black smoke as well, let me know what you find out about your car..
AWeb80
just pulled the code code was "02 sensor Lean" well, it was new 2K mile ago...i'll just get a replacement one....it has a lifetime warranty.
