xtremerevolution
6 months on a brand new engine torque mount and the bolt rips clear through the bushing. Is this normal? I really need one with polyurethane bushings.

xtremerevolution
Wow it sure rusted fast in 6 months I don't think it was ever really painted, and its just surface rust. I can wipe it off pretty easily.
1990lumina
Well regardless that mount shouldn't have fallen apart like it did. Maybe there was a flaw in the rubber...or you 3.8 has that much powa!

Maybe there was a flaw in the rubber...or you 3.8 has that much powa! LOL. I'm guessing its pulling 230-235 lb-ft of torque, which is about the same amount that a Series II 3800 pulls. The only difference is that an SII 3800 has two engine torque mounts, and I only have one...
Robby1870
Wait, that failed on the "frame" end? By "frame" end I mean the end that attaches near the radiator. Usually they fail on the engine end first. Probably a flaw in the rubber. Warranty?

Oh well, it was only $8 to replace and the new one is lighter anyway. Anyone know where I can find a polyurethane one?
mfewtrail
You can modify that dogbone to use a poly bushing on one or both sides. http://www.kazmotorsports.com/tpsgarage/TGP/Engine/motor_mount.htm That "G" on the end stands for black, the same part number with a "R" on the end would be for red bushings. Most part stores can order them for you, or you can find them online somewhere.

If you don't want to rattle your teeth out of your head, just put the poly on the engine side of the dogbone.

GutlessSupreme
if that went bad that fast, definetly take a look at your lower mounts...
xtremerevolution
if that went bad that fast, definetly take a look at your lower mounts... Those were replaced when the other one was replaced. I would imagine that the other engine mounts wouldn't go as bad as the engine torque mount. I launch the car pretty hard at times, so I suppose that's why the torque mount went bad. If I feel the engine stuttering off the launches, I'll take a look at the lower engine mounts. For now I need to replace my front brake caliper bushings and front bumper cover.

He said engine side, so he had the mount installed backwards. I suppose I did. Does it really make a difference? It seemed that both bushings were identical anyway. per0781
it would only matter when you go to tilt the motor forward
