pharmtek
i know this has been answered time and time again but i have now spent over 600 bucks on exhaust and it still looks and sounds like !@#$. first i went to a shop and said have you worked on the 3.4 DOHC before.."sure its just another engine" so 400 bucks later i come back and they cut off my resonator and installed dual vortec cherry bombs with some nice angle cut tips. it sounded really nice at idle but there was a kinda rasp at 2500 rpms "oh that will go away the mufflers need to break in" so time past and it got worse and worse. inspection comes and i need to get it toned down to pass. i said that i got my resonator removed and they told me that my car never had a resonator. which i know isn't true and they replaced my pretty much band new vortec cherry bombs with 15 dollar sumit racing mufflers that rusted and cracked off their mounts. so now i have 2 huge ugly rusted muffler that hang like this \ they don't line up with the bumper cutouts and it sounds like a 4 banger grand am with a 2.5k rpm bark. so what set up should i get so i don't have to worry about this ever again? i don't really care about performance just look and sound. id rather just get a new resonator then put in a 3rd glass pack. which mufflers sound best? thanks for your help
grandprix104
ive talked to alot of people who have pretty much agreed these cars sound raspy with cherrys. Try a high-flow cat with a decent pair of mufflers and you should be alright. alot of people seem to like flowmasters too. thats what im putting on my car soon. I heard a sound clip from a guys that had dual flowmasters and they sounded really good. Nice low tone at idle but pretty mean at accel. gp90se
your having issues with noise the flowmaster is NOT the way 2 go, WAY loud. ive got dual dynomax with y pipe and 3" tips, sound wicked good at idle, raspy when drivin and pretty quite on the highway. the SRT-4 doesnt have any mufflers out the factory and they pass. -Jeff
pharmtek
you both have the 3.1's but i know for a fact that the 3.4 has a different exhaust pulse. so i need to know what people with the dohc's have
mfewtrail
I'd go w/ some dynomax super turbos...kinda quiet/metallic type sound, lot deeper than stock, but not really loud, I haven't heard them on a 3.4, but they sound decent on most anything else..I have a 30series flow on my 93 SE(3.1) and it's one loud mofo. Lee
Whatever mufflers you chose you are going to need a resonator of some sort. Our 3.1's are raspy but your 3.4 is more so. I 'm sorry to keep pushing the FlowTech "Purple Hornies" glasspack but I can say that the tip I got for that pack was directly from a 3.4 site. http://www.efi-street.com/phpbb2/index.php And it took care of the problem. The pack is very well constructed compared to others, like thrusher, I've checked out. It has swirled scallops inside rather than little holes. Heavy too. I painted mine silver before having it welded in and it has gone through one NorthWest Wisconsin winter with no rusting. The dynomax Super Turbos' are doing well also though I guess they might worsen through the next winter. Weld areas are darkened.

gp90se
I ran around for 6 months with no cat, but not only do I have emissions, the smell was awful and my low end torque suffered a bit. -Jeff
