GtipGary
So i have my power wire for my subs going to my Aux post via a mechanics block. On a regular basis my car will start to bog out and lights dim and all kinds of weird stuff happens. When this happens i pop the hood and the aux post nut is loose. when i retighten the nut everything works fine again. Now i know that i definately shouldnt be running a 1500w amp off of the aux post. But i didnt see anywhere else good to do it. I have a 180amp alternator compliments of Griffith Auto Electric. I am also aware that because it is eight gauge from the alternator to everything and that i have four gauge going to my amp that i am probably drawing too much power. How hard is it to convert everything under the hood to four gauge??? and any suggestions on how to keep the aux post tight???
19Cutlass94
You should ALWAYS run your power wire straight off the battery. Puck up a pair of nickel terminals to use. it is VERY easy to use 4g wire. Although you do not replace the stock 8g wire, you simple ADD onto the wire thats already there. Q-Ball
So running a system of the Aux post is bad? Gah!
BXX
Yeah, because that little 6ga from the battery to the aux post give the car all it's power, and then you want that 6ga to supply power to a system as well :willynilly: 180A through 8ga, not ever gonna happen.. You are risking fire in such a horrible way... Upgrade everything to 4ga or even 2ga from the altenator...

digitaloutsider
What about if you did what I did to the Regal: I ran an additional wire from the positive terminal of the battery to the aux. terminal. I know it's probably cheaping out, but I got the wire for free. It's like 2GA. Is this even helping at all?
Psych0matt
run it from the battery, but pick up a capacitor. I only run a 600W (not even at full power) and when its up loud and im sitting at a light i can see it dimming a little *if there are people around I turn it down, cuz i hate the people who force everyone else to hear their crap, but when driving is ok
GtipGary
I have a Battery in the trunk instead of a capacitor... and i also do the whole turn it down at stoplights and such. It doesnt bring me any pleasure to see people mean mugging me and rolling up there windows and shit. My brother finds it hilarious and he thinks its more funny when he can see their windows and mirrors shaking. My lights dont dim from the stereo whatsoever. the only thing that will make them dim a little bit is my turn signal or my windshield wipers... i dont know why
CSI_MuNkY
Well I have my 800W amp subs on the aux post and have yet to have even the slightest problem. No dimming of lights or anything of the sort. No capacitor either. My father has a spool of 0 gauge wire from when he wired up the electrical system in his 71 Nova, I thought about running all new power lines from the battery to the ground and alt, but its too much damn work to be bothered.
