ihateallmustangs
My car started making a weird sound from the belt area a few months ago. The tensioner pulley was clicking but still ok. I didn't take a good look at it till today the pulley has 2 grooves worn into it , which has also worn two lines into the belt. Is this common? The car has over 350,000k now and this part is original
slick
Tensioner's do go bad. Not awful hard to replace, and not expensive.
ihateallmustangs
Im assuming the bolt in the middle is what removes it? Here is the pulley I picked up ,I got it on now. But it is now making a worse nboise then ever , the pulley is scrapeing the tensioner. So im guessing the tensioner is also wacked.

GP1138
I'd just go to the junkyard and find a relatively low mileage 3.1 and swipe that one. When I replaced the one off my 3100, I got one from a '98 GP with the 3100. Worked just fine.
Psych0matt
i had to replace the one on the truck a while back, and it was like 30$ for a brand new one. I figure for something cheap like that you might as well get a new one, save your self a few minutes in the future perhaps. if your cheap/poor enough though, that's not a bad alternative
Pabz
Get a new tensioner assembly. You dont want to be caught with it breaking while you drive, like i did, no coolant led to overheating and then a snapped head bolt.
ihateallmustangs
Ok here is a pic of what the tensioner is doing to the pulley, the orignal plastic pulley I took off was eaten and had severl lines worn in. The tensioner also shakes like crazy with the engine running

ihateallmustangs
Got one from a 3100 , with belt for $10 at the yard! Took the pulley back and got my refund. All is well
