badprix
My manager at work (see racing forums) says he wants to help me fix the GP and he knows everything about turbo's he says he can help me turbo her out. He's thinking a T3 turbo or helping me find a cheap or wrecked TGP and getting the parts from it, but I dont think there are any TGP's around here at all. So, what do you guys think? Performance rebuild? I was thinking 11.5:1 compression, etc. or should I go with the turbo?
Guest TurboSedan
i vote turbo, whether you use custom stuff or TGP bolt on stuff and/or both. there is just too much potential to be had with turbos! joshua
The Burning Rom
I vote NOT to scavenge a TGP for parts unless it's smashed I hate when people rip appart a TGP just for a few parts. You could still build a turbo car out of the motor you have now...it would just take a little more work and a few extra custom parts. There isn't much off of a used TGP that wouldn't need rebuilding if you wanted true performance anyway.

Total Vote: Turbo - 3 Higher Compression - 0 I'm with Joshua on this one. I just saw one of my old friends MKIII GTi Turbo and it's too cool to be true. He did his all from scratch and from a little help from his know-it-all buddies, he was up and running within two weeks after teardown, test fitting, welding and minor tuning. - Erik
dbtk2
Turbo: 4 Higher Compression: 0 Get a turbo. A T3 would be a good idea, but I would not recommend taking parts from a TGP even if it is wrecked, you will enjoy the T3 turbo a lot more than the T25. Then once you get done, if the car still isn't fast enough, rip apart the engine and port & polish everything.
Robby1870
Turbo: 5 Turbo is the way to go, so much potential. Just remember that if you do turbo, an auto tranny from a TGP or a 5spd is going to be needed, the n/a 4T60 will blow up. So, if your going to have to change trannies, that means the motor has to come out. Then you might as well take it all apart and rebuild that bad boy for the turbo, like 8.0-8.5 compression, port/polish it all, new valve train. JMO I completely agree with redoing the whole valvetrain, but lowering compression is not necessary since it is already only 8.9:1. That is plenty low for boost. Our GTP is 8.5:1 and it runs 15psi, so I don't see any reason to lower compression if it is already 8.9:1, that is plenty low as I said before. Robby1870
and alcohol injection @ WOT would helpjoshua Yeah, thats very true. I just thought if he wanted to go crazy with boost like 20+ psi, lowering compression would be needed. Robby
