GPdriver1986
Today I got my temp license plate and I went to test drive my 1991 GP. I just got new brakes for it (rotors and pads). I was kinda driving it hard (not flooring it) and when I got to my destination about 2km (1.5miles) I looked at the passenger side rear wheel there was a dirty smell and some smoke, about fifteen minutes later I came back there was no more smoke but the rim was hot. So I had no choice I had to drive home, so I took it easy and stopped 2 times to check everything was fine. I came back home checked out the car everything looks fine. I took out the jack and I wanted to take off the wheel but it was impossible (heat+metal=expansion). I checked out the other wheels they were a little hot I guess its normal with new pads and rotors. I also got my dad to spin the wheel and it spun around normally with a little drag. I also put on the e-brake it stopped the wheel 100%. I then put the normal brake on the wheels in the back were hard to spin but could still spin. I'm guessing that the brakes on w-bodies are 60% front 20% back and that was definitley 20% in the back. I think the brakes just need to adjust themselves. Any opinions or concerns?
cutlassdude96
did you clean the rotors off before you put them on, all new rotors come with something on them that have to be clean off before you put them on
patgizz
dont be surprised if the caliper is shot, VERY common problem. same symptoms too, hot wheel especially. around here everyone replaces the calipers along with the pads/rotors usually once a year, cause the damn things either have the sliders lock or the piston bind
