How muhc horespower can a 3.4 DOHC safely take off N20? 50 hp? Nitrous Express offers a kit for fairly cheap like 785.00 or something, just thought I'd toss that out there.

trany would be thw weakest link. i think the motor should be able to handle it no prob as long as the motor has been well cared for, but the trany is a diff story. not sure how long it will hold up.

oh jeeze.

any motor can take N20 (even a 305 with 150k on it, trust me I did it).

You need to take out an estimated 2-4* timing for every 50hp, and also richen the fuel mixture.

Cast pistons + N20 + Detonation from running lean = fried motor

And also, now that the motor will be making more power now that you successfully installed nitrous, you have to address the rest of the drive line. I don't know much about the FWD tranny and axles, but I'd check and see if they can reliable handle 300 crank HP.

So the cam timing needs to be retarted? Ok, since the trannys being redone, I think it should hold its own as far as power goes, I was thinking 50 hp MAX, 30 would be safe and still effective.

My Z34 is on its 3rd 4t60e and its relatively stock powertrain wise. Transmissions get expensive. Seriously, just save your money and buy a faster car. Nitrous will just break shit, and if you figure out how to retard your timing, you'll be making less power than you are now when your not using the bottle.

But if you must....remember...."bottles are for babies, real men get blown"

I plan on running a 100 shot on my 3.4 if the funds allow for it. as regal said, take 2 degrees out for every 50 shot, which can be done via chip or aftermarket controller. There is no way a 4t60e will hold up to a 100 shot for any amount of time, but thats a separate issue. another issue I'm a little concerned of is lack of air top end with the restrictive intake.

IMO, a 50 shot wouldn't be a problem as long as your running an aftermarket intake (IE K&N drop in with the snorkel removed or CAI), a good fuel pump, 93 octane and the motor is in good shape.

I take a lotta heat for some of the things I do to my cars, but I have yet to blow up anything that can't be replaced cheap and quickly.

No the base timing, or initial timing. The cam timing only comes into play when you want a diff rpm ringe. advancing the cam timing 2-4* will let the engine rev higher.

The initial timing and advance you need to back down or you'll detonate.

Stock, I wouldn't try anymore than 50-75 at most. Any more than that and you probably don't have enough fuel to keep it from going boom. With tuning + upgraded fuel delivery, the DOHC would take plenty of nitrous.

i think they should be able to handle a 100-shot. the tranny prob wont like it for long, though. im just glad you have the balls to try it

Trans will be rebuilt to take this nitrous. I can't wait to see how this goes. 300 horsepower Lumina....no one will believe that.

If I paypal you shipping costs can I have broken engine / transmission parts?!!?!!

Haha what parts do you want? I can give you a shitload of metal pieces haha. This DOHC is going to have life again soon. I have been pondering an L67 swap for the price of this tranny haha.

i will come up to canadaland and kick you in the balls if you do. have a nice day.

HEY! I didnt say for sure I was gonna swap!, but I like the DOHC, its a pain in the ass, but they are awesome to drive, I would hate to chop up a LS wiht the DOHC for an L67. And after seeing the manual trans thread 93z did, I am soooo jealous. Thats pretty much all I'd need to do right, but then I couldnt get a manual computer for the car......
