OK, a friend of mine has a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix SE Sedan that he's trying to sell. The motor is the 3.1 V6. He said it blew a head gasket, but I'm not sure about that, I've never heard of many 3.1s blowing head gaskets, I think it's the LIM gasked because it has that godawful Dex-Cool in it. He said there is water in the oil, and it was running fine last time he started it up, but that was a while back and I think it may have locked up since then, but I'll check that out tomorrow. Anyway, he's asking $700 for it, said he'll go as low as $650, but told me he would sell it to me for $500. The only way I'm going to buy this car is if I can swap a 3800 into it. My main question is, what all cars like this came with a 3800 vin L27 or L36? I'm not worried about finding the motor, around here that's the easy part. I'm wondering what cars I can use motor mounts, wiring harnesses, stuff like that from.

just to let you know, its easier if you refer to the engine as a 3100 so most people on here will understand you better. the 3.1 is usually referenced when talking about the earlier engine.

anyway, on topic. could def be the LIM and you already know at 17 that dex-cool kinda sucks, lol, so thats good  IMO, you def dont want the L27 and i personally think it would be a waste to put an L36 in it. i would either go with an L67 or rebuild the 3100 w/ 3400 or 3500 top end. there are a bunch of cars w/ the L36, too many to name, lol. pretty much could be got in almost any gm car from 95-ish up. L67 and 3400 also came in a lot of cars.

I actually don't mind the L27, it's what I have in my car now. The L36 I test drove was OK, but I didn't like the 1-2 shift as well as my 4T60E. L67 would be ideal, but I don't like having to put premium gas in it.
