stockgp Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 i'm stumped. after i upgraded the big 3 again, the cooling fan on the driver's side is always on. i can rewire it to make it work like it's supposed to, but i'd like to know why it's doing this. i didn't short anything. i ran the new wires to the same spots i ran the last ones. any suggestions? Robby1870 Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 hmmm. Try swapping the relay for that fan with the one for the other fan to rule out a bad relay (although I doubt that's it). Could be the coolant temp sensor in the lower intake is bad, but, from my experience, when they go bad, they will give a "cold" reading to the ECM. Quote
stockgp Posted July 30, 2007 Author Report Posted July 30, 2007 forgot to mention i already did that. and to clarify, the fan is on whether the ignition is or not. as soon as i hook the grounds back up, the fan comes on. Quote
slick Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 Thats really odd. Didn't accidently disconnect something else? Quote
stockgp Posted July 31, 2007 Author Report Posted July 31, 2007 not that i can see. i can't even imagine what i could have disconnected that would have that effect Quote
slick Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 I can only think that something is being grounded, completing the circuit, for the fans to kick in. You only touch the main ground and positive cables, correct? Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 Did you get the right ground above the radiator? Maybe you got another groung instead of the negative battery ground. I know on my car theres two grounding spots there.... Quote
stockgp Posted July 31, 2007 Author Report Posted July 31, 2007 only main positives and negatives, yes. 19cutlass94, i didn't even touch that ground. i left all the factory grounds in place, and ran my new grounds elsewhere Quote
z34Phoenix Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 either the fan is getting power at the fan wires them selfs or the input for the relay is getting constant power... my guess is you have a short somewhere in the wiring. Quote
shyguy164 Posted August 5, 2007 Report Posted August 5, 2007 Did you get the right ground above the radiator? Maybe you got another groung instead of the negative battery ground. I know on my car theres two grounding spots there.... The right ground? Another ground? Ground is ground. Now whether or not it's switched is another thing. Quote
