chadz34
I know the 1.5 gen Lumina's and Monte Carlo's never had the option, but they are still W-body's and I would love to have a stick 3.4 Lumina. Since, I need a new trans anyways, is there anyway a 284 could be put in. With the amount of money being put into an auto to rebuild it, and most rebuilds suck, why not manual the Lumina? Euro
I don't think it's been done before, but it shouldn't be any harder than putting one into a 1st Gen. Question for the crowd though, compare a rebuild to a 4T60E to a 284, which would be more? Since the 284's can't be rebuilt or something like that? 19Cutlass94
It would be easy to physically put in. Thats not a problem. Its the half-shafts and tranny mount ( finding ) that would be a problem. Since hes got a DOHC, he can get a chip for the manual tranny. I would ask Miko K on the rebuild. He rebuilt his. Damn, I was gonna say couldn't he just get half shafts and a trans mount from a 284 w-body...there were none past 93 heh
pwmin
isnt kuntzie undertaking the same project? no one makes parts for the 284 besides stuff that interchanges w/ the 282 (besides a clutch kit). id like to see what miko rebuilt, that would be cool if im wrong. chadz34
Thast why I ask, I can't see the price difference being that drastic, I heard the 4T60-E can get expensive to rebuild. Best model yeard DOHC and a 284? That Lumina would fly haha.

jeremy
here is the link to the cardomain page that was posted in the link on mymonte.....too bad the guy mated the manual to the 3100, hardly worth the effort IMHO http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2653677/
1990lumina
kuntzie's got the 3800 engine too..which shouldn't matter though.
pwmin
all model years had the same 282/284. i wouldnt bother trying to find a 284. i would just build a 282. you can build them pretty stout, just look at some fiero vendors and sites

jeremy
I certainly give him credit for swapping the trans, but mating with a 3100 isn't worth the effort IMHO. I know that you are 3100 slappy and I don't know if you have even driven an LQ1 much less a LQ1 w/a stick. But swapping the trans and keeping the 3100 still would make his car slower then the stock auto Z34s and much slower the manual LQ1s. Then to top it off, he is claiming that his car is now a Z34
19Cutlass94
I actually perfer the 3400 over the 3100, but I have no time and money right now to do what I would like. But Ive never driven an LQ1 5spd.
