Drag Radials

What size drag radials would be good for a L67 swaped regal. I might be using the stock 16x6.5 rims for the front or if I can find 16x7 or 16x8 rims I would buy rims and the D/R. Also what brand might be the best. I am really only gonna use them at the track. Put them on there and take them off there. Where can I buy the correct size rims and/or tires? I can't hook well at all on the track. I'm hoping I can pull a 14 or a high 13.9 with the D/R. My best with street tires at 22PSI tire pressure was a 14.31 and I was spinning pretty good. I also need more practice launching.

if theyre for the track only, why not run a bias ply tire like the quicktime pros.

lots of people swing from nittos nuts when it comes to drag tires, but ive seen plenty of people not hook at the track with them (but pretty good on the street)

pics can be found of your car where?

x2!!!

If you're just using these for the track, I'd just go upgrade to slicks all together. Over on clubgp people rave about Hoosier QTP's. Supposedly heat up great, and work great. I haven't heard too many good things about the Nitto's.

But if you really want DR's look at BF Goodrich.

Yeah I have heard good things for BF goodrich. I want drag radials so there might be a little give, just to reduce the chance of breaking something although I know it is still a risk. My biggest thing now is what size. I haven't seen any that will fit on the stock 16x6.5 rim. Aside from the rim size, what would be the best? 225/50/15? 255/50/16? 235/60/16? Anything else that might fit better? Just looking for the best combo that will also clear stock calipers.

I will get some pics of my car up as soon as I get more. That is my Regal that comes up with my posts. I will get bigger pics of it, the interior, and the engine bay. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that they make DR's that will fit on cutlass 5 spokes which should be 16x6.5. Or try 16x8 how certain cross lace Bonneville wheels are

Yeah, my profile say what I did to the car. I have the 4T60 non-e trans. I just had it rebuilt with raybestos Z-PAK clutches, shift kit, 3.42 Final Drive, Limited Slip, 3000RPM High Stall. I didn't even have a problem before the rebuild, but I knew I was gonna keep giving it more stress so I built it up a bit. It had 206,000 miles on it before the rebuild and I have only put about 3,000 on the new rebuild. I think it should hold up.

from my research and experience

best on top worst on bottom

traction:

mickey thompson

bfg

nitto

mileage:

nitto

bfg

mickey thompson

also nittos run smaller than the actual tire width listed on the tire. for example a 275/40/17 tire is more like a 265/40/17. nittos are managable in the rain. bfg's and m/t's aren't. i had to come home from the body shop in the rain with my mt et streets in the rear of the camaro. fastest i could go was 30 mph or the ass end would wanna slide around.

also, did you upgrade your axles? i know that high hp hondas like to snap axles.

Stock axles. Come on guys lets not compare our cars to hondas! lol My brother has three and only one is running right now. He has a CRX with a wide body and some engine work but it doesn't run right now, a 93 Prelude with an H22 that has a snapped connecting rod. His stock crx with nothing is his only car that runs, or should I say crawls. If I break one, I have a friend that had some axles made to handle 400WHP from a shop in north carolina I think. I will get something better then. These have put up with at least 15 burnouts and no signs of stress.

I am hooking ok with street tires. I am only able to launch at 1700-1800 RPMS or I will spin horrible. Some times if I don't feather in the gas just right I still spin them a little. 14.3 was lucky. I was getting 14.57 area consistent cause I couldn't find a sweet spot. I have a high stall and I want to launch it a little higher like 2500RPMS or so and have my foot planted with very little or no wheelspin. This I know is gonna be stressfull on the whole car. It's only to get my best time on the track though. I think I am gonna get the M/T et streets 255/50/16. I hope those gives me what I am looking for. Thanks everyone for helping me figure this out.

good choice! you can find those barely used at a good price if you want to go that route. also, have you done any suspension mods? battery in the trunk? any weight savings? you don't want the car to squat when you take off.

KYB struts all around. I have 225/45/17 tires on it right now. Battery is in stock location. I have probably added 150lbs to the car which I know is not the route I should be going. The body kit added on to the stock GS ground effects. It did not replace any bumpers or anything. Just went on top of what was there. My entire trunck has dynamat extreme on it. I had a system in it but I took it out. I didn't wanna deal with the mess/stickyness of removing the dynamat. Plus it does quiet the interior down a bit cause the exhaust is rediculasly loud. It does ok at launch. I dropped my tires down to 22PSI and my rears up to 55PSI. Kept it a little stiffer back there.
