gpchris
My cam cover of my 3.4x is peeling and I’d like to remove it and paint it without adding a new gasket.. After all it is a rubber gasket and it was replaced less than 7k miles ago so if the engines cooled off i think it would be fine use the old gasket as long as i clean it off a bit. I've heard that if you remove it you HAVE to get a new gasket but If it doesn’t fall apart (and i know it wont) I should be able to use it again right?? Yep, I've had mine off, and since you had them replaced recently they should be fine. Just be careful, when the cam cover gaskets are newer, they are real loose and rubbery, they may be difficult to put back in, if you are having trouble, use some silicon sealant to hold it in place until you can get it put on. For the record, the paint on them things take a while to get sanded down to bare metal to paint.

chadz34
x1000 on everything he said. ive had mine off a few times with the same gasket Mine got changed when I did the head gaskets, so I have all brand new GM gaskets right through the whole engine. It blows when the gaskets are new they are flappin everywhere, it was a PITA to flip the cam cover back over and put it on wihtout the fucking gasket falling out, so I just used silicon to hold it in.
