Hello guys. I have just read some good info on pulling a 3100. I will be doing this soon on my 1995 GP 3100 to replace the original cam gear and chain with 160k miles. My question is, where do you folks lift from? I thought about just coming thru the upper intake with chain or nylon strap. This don't exactly thrill me so I hope some one can share their thoughts.

there's 2 hooks on the engine for lifting it. One next to the alternator (part of the bracket assy) the other is the iron bracket attached to the drivers side UPPER mount. Lift hya.

No, I'm only going to replace the cam gear and chain. But also I need to replace the power strg high pressure hose, so I figured this would be the quick way for both repairs. Sure did not notice the hooks on the engine, will look again this AM.

OK guys, I have decided to wait untill this Fall and cooler temps to replace the cam gear and timing chain on the 95GP 3100. But still got the power strg hose leaking. I thought I had read some on this little project here but can noy find it now. Any tips for this one. Thanks

Well it just looks to me i would be easier and quicker to just pull engine for chain replacement rather than go thru all crap of lowering sub-frame. And this has to be done in order to pull oil pan, in order to pull front cover. Did I miss something, I do not want to do this the hard way. Could be I'm making more of dropping frame down than it really is.

You don't need to pull the oil pan to remove the timing cover. therefore you do not need to pull the subframe.

remove the passenger side wheel, splash guard, serpentine belt, crank pulley, water pump hose/pipe, steering pump, alternator wires. that's it. timing cover should be wide open.

That has to be the best news I've heard in a long time! Every manual I looked at for this repair all said the oil pan had to be removed before front cover could be removed. After having that set in my mind I did not even look at the front of the engine as close as I would have normaly. I know this makes me look like a real DA but thanks for the reply gutlesssupreme.
