LumiDriver
Well, after getting the oil changed, and up til I got the oil changed, I've been experiencing a hesistation problem with the lumina. She's been hesistating no matter how hard I am on the gas, easing on it or flooring it. It does it in first and second gear (really don't get to try 3rd gear because I never go fast enough to use it to test it). I'm thinking it's something to do with the ignition system, but I could be wrong. Any thoughts on this? Recommendations. It's possible something could be bad with the fuel system as well. Let me know if you guys can think of anything to check.
1990lumina
When's the last time the fuel filter was changed?
Andrew
your fuel pump may be on its way out. check the fuel pressure at the rail.
digitaloutsider
Check fuel pressure. Also, take the coils/ICM to get tested.
White93z34
see how cloged up your fuel filter is, and how do your spark plugs look?
19Cutlass94
Is it a missfire? Thats the only thing that the ingition system would cause. And you would feel a missfire no matter what gear or rpm. And its deff different that a hesitation. If you can smell raw fuel out the tailpipe you have a missfire. But like others have said, check the fuel filter, fuel pressure at the rail... maybe ohm test the injectors. And it could be that you got some shitty gas last time you filled up as well. LumiDriver
Fuel filter has not been changed since the car was made at the factory. (The police department did say that it was changed, but why that and nothing else on the car). Â the spark plugs only have about 10k on them, and I have no idea how to test any of the other stuff you guys mentioned.

LumiDriver
Well, the volts light came on yesterday, so today, on my lunch break, I took the car to AZ and they tested the battery and the alt. Alternator is dead. And I'm driving on only the battery...I don't even know if I have enough to make it home. Shit...
LumiDriver
WELL! After the new(junkyard) alternator, it's working fine...oh wait, did I say fine? I mean, shitty. Â Overheating like a bitch! Usually I can get it to cool down by stomping on it, but wait! the hesitation is kicking in. Â The car has coolant, the fans work, and I'm fairly certain the Water pump is working. What the hell is wrong with this car. I admit, this is way beyond me. I worked on cars with my dad for the longest time, and I cannot figure out what the hell is wrong with this car. Anyone live near me that knows alot about the 3100 sfi? It's driving me nuts, I'm about to just junk the goddamned thing.
Robby1870
Are you sure it's actually overheating and not just a gauge going out?
19Cutlass94
The sender for the gauge cluster is a POS and often reads ( in my experience ) ~20* hotter than the ECM sensor. However if you think its actually over heating, it could be the WP, although are you adding/loosing any coolant?
LumiDriver
I have been adding from time to time, not too much not too little. And I can smell the engine overheating. It shut off on me once when I was close to home, thankfully, I was able to coast it to the house.
Robby1870
Are the fans on when it's hot?
LumiDriver
Yup fans are on when it gets hot. Today, I bled a lot of air outta the system and it stayed within limits the entire drive. It flucuates ALOT, but it's within limits

LumiDriver
Yeah, seems like it. I still have issues with the bleeding of the system. I always feel like I'm doing it wrong.
