synistershadows Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 ok so i have read that drilling holes on the bottom of the air box improves performace very slightly?? is this true? as well i have also read that it doesnt so much but it would change the sound of the exhaust slightly? or just the sound of the car in general?? so main question is it really worth doing? If your after sound, take the top off the airbox and buy a 3'' cone filter at your local parts shop and that'll make it growl real nice. You might gain a few hp by improving overall air intake. Quote
synistershadows Posted July 8, 2007 Author Report Posted July 8, 2007 i already spent bout $80 on a replacment K&N so i see no point to buying that and just getting rid of the already expensive filter Quote

You could have had an aweomse start on DOHCV6's intake, it owuld have been a much better option, hell, you could have made a kickass setup for 80 bucks! Quote
synistershadows Posted July 8, 2007 Author Report Posted July 8, 2007 probably but im stupid and its my first car lol Quote
mediabandit Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 probably but im stupid and its my first car lol fuckin honest atleast, lmao...lmao....lmao Quote
mra32 Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 I removed the little nozzle thing on the front of my 3.1 intake thats supposed to take up cold air from the front. I also drilled holes in the driver side and front of the box (dont drill the top, filtered side). My thinking on doing those sides was that it would be protected from water splashing up from underneath and also pick up air farthest away from the engine. I noticed a nice growl under load. My exhaust was already loud, it might have made it a tad louder, I'm not really sure, nothing really noticeable. I did notice quicker shifts, but I have a hard time understanding what about an opened up airbox would make quicker shifts, so I'm doubtful of the validity of my perception. Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 I took the snorkel off of my Cutlass's airbox long ago.. it definetly makes it louder but I think it was proven that you lose like 5 ft-lbs, and that a cone filter made it even worse. I'd leave it alone. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 Its either stock air intake or a true CAI. Quote
rockfangd Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 i put in a cone filter and it sounds really good and i gained hp, now i just need to make a surround for the cone Quote
jeremy Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 i put in a cone filter and it sounds really good and i gained hp, now i just need to make a surround for the cone ass dyno or real dyno proven? ....because like mentioned above, drilling/gutting the airbox will actually make you lose hp/tq but it will sound nice Quote
rockfangd Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 well all i know is when i give it gas it picks up speed better and i can hear every shift Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 You should be able to hear the car shift reguardless of intake... Quote
slick Posted July 9, 2007 Report Posted July 9, 2007 Doing a K&N drop-in with the swiss cheese airbox does make a noticable difference. Quote
