mase10
Can you take a turbo off of a turbo grand prix 3.1 and put it on a 3.1 thats non turbo? Or do you have to do alot of part swapping?
Redfox340
Well, where are you going to bolt that turbocharger to? Air? You'll need (at least, more will add to this list): * exhaust manifolds * w/ cross-over pipe + downpipe * ECM MEMCAL chip (only swap to 1988 - 1993 3.1L MPFI motors) * vacuum / coolant lines * intercooler * [more to add you turbocharged owners...] There's been a TON of discussions about this... search for it and you'll get a full list! Best of luck, ...what car is it for? - Erik

92turboLE
Well heres more from a non-turbo owner TGP oil pan TGP Injectors 2-Bar MAP sensor TGP auto tranny (the one for the n/a 3.1L will not handle the power) TGP radiator (its a good idea) Robby i been wanting to find out... what the hell is the difference between the TGP oil pan and one from a N/A 3.1??? Intercooler is not required, ut suggested, unless you wanna be like me and go with alcohol injection... little better cooling then an IC. TGP tranny shouldnt matter, as long as you have a 4T60, not a 4T60E. radiator from TGP not needed if you dont use the tgp IC. 2bar is the only other thing i can think of... a full rebuild would be a good idea though... The following is what i am doing to mine... 1. Block and head O-Ringed 2. Port and polish with port matching 3. 5-angle valve job 4. titanium springs and stainless steel valves. 5. 1.6:1 roller tip rockers 6. GM Performance racing cam (kinda a wild cam) 7. forged pistons and rods with lower compression (8.4:1) 8. new pushrods 9. 3bar map sensor 10. intake out of 2.5 inch mandrel bend stainless steel - ceramic coated 11. TGP hood louvers with dual ICs - (one under each louver) 12. alcohol injection (for cooling) 13. 17c or 20g Sy/Ty turbo 14. 35 shot dry nitrous (to spool the turbo) 15. built 4T60 auto tranny 16. sparco reclining racing seats up front 17. Sparco non-reclining racing seats in the back 18. FFP underdrive pulley 19. FFP poly dogbones 20. custom chip 21. greddy BOV 22. brake upgrade 23. FFP coilover conversion 24. front and rear STBs 25. Front and rear swaybar 26. 95 GTP front clip and rear bumpers 27. custom molded fiberglass sideskirts 28. custom molded low profile hood scoop (looks only for that) 29. front and rear center consoles (front: GP coupe - Rear: ols cutlass) 30. manual boost controler 31. power sunroof added 32. custom paint job with a checkered flag in ghost white on the sides 33. HID conversion 34. 17 inch enkei wheels (already on) 35. TGP oil pan (if needed) 36. 5% window tint all the way around 37. fully functional computer with ability to control alarm, windows, lights, ect. with 6.5 inch display in the glove box (eventually with ability to run complete engine management) 38. custom downpipe 39. 3 inch full exhaust with racing cat and high flow silencers 40. braided stainless steel lines (for everything) 41. custom crossover pipe - ceramic coated 42. [more to be added]

Robby1870
The TGP oil pan has something to do with the oil lines for the turbo. Maybe it has places in it or something. Hey, Malibuolds, why dont when you get yuor TGP motor, take pics of the oil pans, so we can see the difference. The n/a 4T60 is not the same internally as the turbo 4T60. I think the Torque Converter and valve body and some more stuff is better for the turbo 3.1L. Robby
SleeperRed90TGp
The mystical TGP oil pan. Mine just happens to be off. Takes a few second to load.
GnatGoSplat
Looks like if that pipe is available separately, it would be easy to modify the pan. Great pics, SleeperRed!

Guest TurboSedan
yeah, thanks for the pics; i was curious too. mine is all grimy still and haven't had a chance to spray the area down with Brakleen & rags to get a better look (my TGP engine is about 250 miles away from me right now). my pan is coming off for a new oil pump/gaskets and will be cleaned & probably painted then. joshua

Yeah, that looks real easy to modify. Looks like you just drill a hole and and holes for those bolts, then put that line on, pretty simple to me. But that is only *how* it looks from the OUTSIDE. SleeperRed90TGp
Well redturbo90 you would ask. You want a lie or the truth? I’ll tell you the truth. I blew the waste gate hose and clamp off in a race. Actually a pretty good one. I was happy other than I was at the side of the road dead. So I cooked the motor with over boost. Not the first time I’ve cooked motors but I hope it’s the last. Getting tired of fixing them. Robby. As for the turbo pan. The studs don’t go through the pan. There on the second flange that’s under the pipe welded to the top flange. It’s really hard to tell how they attached the bottom flange to the pan but I suspect it was flash welded, projection welded or spot welded as there is no evidence on the inside of the pan. Looks like they glued it on. Don’t know if these parts are available. GM direct comes up with a p/n but you can’t check out with it. The pipe is sealed with an o’ring between the two flanges. Local auto supply has these. If your adding a turbo I would suggest getting a 5/8 heater hose nipple off any car and welding it along with a backup washer to the pan. Make sure everything is on the car when you mark the spot because its crowded down there. Other than that use a bulkhead fitting. Wheatherhead has them but I couldn’t find it on the net but I know they go that big caus I used a 5/8 union on my turbo to get the hose away from the turbo. Glad you guy’s like the pictures. There’s been a lot of ink about these pans glad I just happened to have it off when the issue came up. To bad I had to take it off. See my next post you won’t believe how stupid people are. jud
92turboLE
sounds great, but are you RICH?!?!?! j/k...joshua not rich, but taking my time and waiting for the deals... a lot of the stuff, like all the fiberglass work im doing myself, and i have hookups in the exhaust business, and all the engine stuff im doing all the work... so it really isnt that expensive.... just gonna need your help though to do the swap... - Justin
