NEW Transmission question-OLD car

Maybe easy to fix, maybe not. My "wife" and I cruised the Regal out to the middle of the country for a (weak ass) firework show tonight, and I noticed something weird. Maybe its normal, I dont know, its a W-body. So at cruising speed, the tranny will lock-up but when I get into the gas a little, itll just momentarily rev a little, then go back down but wont come out of lock-up. If I use the "2 foot method" of gas and brake itll come out of lock-up but as soon as I get off the brake it immediately goes back into lock-up. The only way to get it out of lock-up is to goose the gas till it kicks down into third. Yeah, if youve read my previous post aboot this car, youll already know I need to replace the tranny, but really..should I replace a tranny when the engine has 221,000 miles on it? And did I say "lock-up" enough? Thanks for any ideas guys and gals.

Hell Yea If you love the car and care about it then do it. Like me my gp's been through 5 transmissions cause the shops here in fla can't build one for **** and i'm going to my hometown in kentucky in about 2 months and getting my friend who builds transmissions for a living to rebuild mine.. and fqiq the zzp shift kit they sell will work with our transmissions btw i'm at 254k

wow, maybe you need to learn to drive?

anyways, I'd maybe look around for a JY tranny with as low miles as possible, but I'd just drive it for now. if it's not slipping all the time or being completely on the way out, I'd hang onto it for now

I had a very similar situation with my old GP, except it was that my car wouldn't stay in lock-up during normal driving. I added a trans cooler that I got for free and that helped a lot, but I think that was a different issue. Personally, if its still drives fine at 221K, which is what I sold my old GP at I know its still running, I wouldn't put the money into a trans, if you need to get it to shift out of lock-up just shift to third. Any money you put into it is probably money you won't get back out of it. Thats just my two cents.

my cutty has been like that since i bought it. It is the TCC lockup clutch on mine that is bad. common problem but 94 and up you cant just unplug it. the only way i can accelerate when i am already going is to hold the brake pedal down just far enough to disable the TCC. i just got used to it lol. good luck

Maybe I should just fashion a switch to disable\enable it at will onto the dash.

lock-up........

Thats what I would do, me and my dad did that to an old corsica that had the same problem now that I think about it, of course this one would actually stay locked up in third and kill the engine.

Yeah but would I be able to use the brake switch and rewire it to the dash? Would that cause some sort of problem. I mean, the brake switch isnt supposed to be permanently engaged is it?
