99RegalGS
And it's 12.56 inches AROUND! I've had the intake done for the past month now, but I've been slacking and haven't painted it yet..... I finally painted it yesterday afternoon. I still want to sand off the letters on the outside, but I didn't have any sand paper so I skipped it for the moment... Here's the finished product. Hammered metal paint! Appearance is similar to the snout of the supercharger.. And just in case you're wondering what seals the pipe at the throttlebody.. Overall, I didn't really notice a seat in the pants difference. But it 10x LOUDER!!!! I love it! All of the build pictures are here... http://gsregal.jbarbieri.net/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=

Cam'ron
i envy the 3800 for that... i have to deal with the MAF as a second unit... makes a clean pipe to the fender almost an impossibility, i want mine to look like that but i have yet to find the setup that will let me do that
Andrew
that has to be one of the nicest self made FWI ive ever seen!! good work.
5speedz34
Looks awesome. I would've gone to extent of finding someone to bend the pipe for me. But alas thats just me.
IRONDOG442
I am not sure but I think its PolyVinylChloride and I have never seen anyone bend that LOL!!!
5speedz34
I am not sure but I think its PolyVinylChloride and I have never seen anyone bend that LOL!!! Right, I wouldn't have used that and I would've gotten a pipe bender and bent the pipe.
CSI_MuNkY
I am not sure but I think its PolyVinylChloride and I have never seen anyone bend that LOL!!! Lets hope its ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) it has a much higher melting point (about 100-150* F), and doesn't give off near the toxic fumes when heated. I work in a plastic factory, if one of the machines running PVC is left on but not running too long then the fumes could be enough to evacuate the building. Looks good though! I plan on using ABS pipe for mine, I hope mine turns out as well as yours did! What did you use to make the cover where it goes into the fender? I think that makes it look so clean! IRONDOG442
God bless Vinyl Chlroide fumes !!! How bout High Density Poly Ethylene ???
CSI_MuNkY
If you can find pipe made of HDPE, I'll buy some off ya! Even LDPE! I've never seen pipe in either, but at the same time I can't say that I have looked for pipe in anything aside from ABS and PVC, but according to wiki they use HDPE for Domestic water supply, but this could refer to storage tanks. IRONDOG442
I'll make ya some pipe made from HDPE, polymers dominate but I pwn them!!!!
slick
PVC is fine for tubing Tony. In fact, it doesn't pick up the heat near as much as metal tubing does.
slick
What did you make the blockoff plate from the fenderwell to the engine bay from? Where did you pick up the paint??
CSI_MuNkY
Krylon Fusion comes in that color and finish I believe. Would stick to the pipe nicely, unless you used HDPE or LDPE pipe, both are resistant to the solvents that make fusion work the way it does. pwmin
at least you didnt use dryer vent or black flex tubing
99RegalGS
Thanks for the comments guys! One goal for this intake was to clean the look up compared to other FWIs I've seen. That looks really good! What type of piping did you use? Couplers? It is 4" Sewer Pipe. I could not find sewer pipe in ABS, so I settled with PVC. Even though it has it's disadvantages... I didn't really use any couplers, I have the seal at the throttle body and the filter on the other end. What did you make the blockoff plate from the fenderwell to the engine bay from? Where did you pick up the paint?? The blockoff plate is just a piece of plastic 3-4" vent roof flashing. The paint is Rust-Oleum "Hammered" paint. I got everything at Lowes except for the filter and the TB seal.
chadz34
I agree, best looking custom made FWI by far, nice job!
Justin
How exactly does it mount to the throttle body? With how much an engine moves on accel, is that rubber doughnut enough to keep it seated properly? Looks huge though, that's cool.
99RegalGS
I agree, best looking custom made FWI by far, nice job! Thanks! How exactly does it mount to the throttle body? With how much an engine moves on accel, is that rubber doughnut enough to keep it seated properly? Looks huge though, that's cool. The TB seal acts as a pivot point. The seal has enough flex to allow it to move slightly without breaking the seal at all. It works quite well actually. EDIT: here's a quick video I took tonight. 1.3MB
