so yesterday i replaced my water pump and i was quite hppy with the results,no more loud noise, and all together better sound, and my engine doesnt over heat!

today i had plans to chill with my girlfriend.so when i got there we hung out or w/e blah blha.

but when i went to leave my car decided to not turn over and im pretty pissed.

so my question is this:

would it just be easier for me to pull the motor and do it,and if i do that then im gunna replace all the gaskets and my distibuter seal(cant think of what exactly its called)

but if not then someone plz send me a link with pics on how to do it without pulling the motor..

also i was wondering if anyone knew how much the sensor on my trnasmission would caost to replace?

thanks for your time.

I've heard that the LQ1 oil cooler line gets in the way. Of course, that makes about 20 more minutes.

Opinions vary. I did a search and discovered people saying it was easy, and others saying it was hard to near impossible. I'd wager it matters what year you have.

It's a couple of bolts at least, and see if it pops out with some twisting. It should be pretty straightforward.

i havent replaced my starter, but i reshimmed it right after i bought it. It's a pain cuz it's kinda hard to get to, but if you can be patient and take your time to do it right, shouldnt be too hard to do.

Yep, when you replace it, go with a newer 3400 starter. It's a bit smaller, making it just that much easier to put back in.

Anyways, I would rate it a 2. I would say 1, just because it's a matter of like 2 bolts(plus the little plastic shield if your car has it), but you may have to deal with some oil cooler lines. The best way to get it out, if you have those lines in the way, is force it out.

driving up on ramps would probably be a big help

Yeah, I replaced mine with only jack stands and at night. Other than that it wasn't bad. I don't know how much room and LQ1 has, but for a 3.1 its much easier to get out if you take the oil filter off too. I went to the 3x00 starter as well. If your current starter is shimmed you may not need the shims with the 3x00 starter. Mine had two shims on it and then new 3x00 one did not need any shims. This was also confirmed from two or three other people I talked to that said the 3x00 started doesn't need any shims.

I almost forgot about that... When i bought my first vert I had to change the starter to drive it home. had to deal with a impact tighten oil filter too, which would not come off for love or money.

try removing the oil filter... and 3x00 starter FTW!

Yes. Newer style starter is a must. Sean and I removed the oil filter as well, but still had some coolant and a/c lines in the way. After the annoyance of removing the old one (at least on a TGP), I decided there's no way I'm replacing it with that same monstrosity. I went with a starter off an '03 3400 equipped Impala. MUCH smaller and lighter, and installing it was a HELL of a lot easier. We also didn't reuse the 2 shims (which were broken, anyway  ), and it starts fine. The starter on the TSTE just went out, and I snagged an '01 Impala starter yesterday to replace it with (hopefully this weekend).

dude, if john told you the motor is locked up, check it. take off the accessory belt, and try to spin the crank with a breaker bar. if it spins, well, you're not locked up, if it won't budge - then yeah, it's engine swap time.

gimmie a call sometime, and we'll go over the car, probably monday night, because this weekend is booked.

Im sorry but I am a little confuzzled here, where is the starter on the DOHC? Never had to deal with one.

Exactly the same place as the 2.8/3.1/3100/3400's. There is absolutely nothing special about it.

to add to what timmy was saying, make sure you can spin it 180* +, because when i locked up my engine, i could turn it about 160*, and it would stop going either way, not quite able to spin all the way around. I wish I woulda had time to tear into it before my parents got rid of it (too bad i had to be back at school and they didnt want it sitting in the driveway by the house anymore)

so then why is he saying he has to rip out the motor.. my 3.1 didnt take me all that long.

Because he has no idea what he is doing.

Changing an alternator is just as easy on a 3.1 as it is on a 3.4. Yours most likely didn't, as my 3100 didn't, but some of these cars have oil cooler lines that are in the way, making it a pain to change it out. It should only add another 5-10 minutes worth of extra time, but thats it.

took it to jdm automall collison (which my uncle owns)

and while there it was looked at on there lunch break, they sat and thought for a minute what it could be...

then my cousin gtipgary relized maybe it has something to do with the waterpump i just replaced 2 days ago,so he takes off my main drive belt and my car fired right up!

wtf is taht im happy but im kinda pissed i took all of my stereo equipment out cause i thought it was gunna be there for a while..

but .

what could it be?

any ideas.

and the water pump i put in it was a duralast with a lifetime warranty?just incase you wanna know.
