itsdave
So picked up the car, after forking over $110 for the belt... and my alternator is pretty noisy. I spoke with my regular mechanic and he said it was ok to drive back, im getting the alt put in for $150 with labor and core... not too shabby i guess. Pontiac6KSTEAWD
150 bucks for a alt is actually a good deal if its warentied. The alt run about 80-110 bucks alone..

3.1cutlass
I hope this shop is on the level, AAA dispatched them. That doesnt mean shit. I had AAA tow my car and they fucked up the lower control arm on the rear of my cutlass. Fuck AAA.
digitaloutsider
Paying over $30 for a belt replacement is rape, but you already get that, I guess. $120 for the alternator job really isn't too awful. Make sure the alternator is remanufactured or new, NOT rebuilt.

itsdave
Well, as i turns out my alternator is fine. The noise was comming from a stuck compressor clutch. Anyway now im looking around for a new compressor to install, is there a specific part number for the one I need for my 97 with the 3100? Ive been browsing ebay and they have alot of compressors cross listed with alot of different cars, and they even look different, but all claim to be good for my car, any ideas?
