'93 Lumina tranny probs

Well.....I've been putting up with this problem for a while and I figured I would throw it up on here and see if anyone has any input.

My car ('93 Lumina 3.1) has been skipping 3rd gear. It goes 1, 2, OD (torque converter unlocked), then OD (torque converter locked). I read somewhere that if one of the clutches goes bad then i would be missing 2 gears cause 1 clutch controls 2 gears?????? I don't know if any of this information is true.

The fluid has been changed recently (within 10k miles) and it started this problem 12 to 15k miles ago. This is really aggravating cause I travel 45 mins a day and I go over a couple big hills I hate straining the 3.1 to 3k RPMS and beyond. Oh yeah the car has 189k miles on it and we had to put a tranny in it at 80k-ish cause the torque converter stopped working and the only tranny that we could find was one that we didn't know how many miles it was. Oh yeah, the only information I know for sure is the tranny is a 4-T60e.....cause thats what the pan says LOL.

Any advice is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks guys!!!!!

I'm going to ask a dumb question, but are you sure it's skipping 3rd speed?

Could it be going 1-2-3-OD-Locked...?

I guess it could be.....the thing that pointed me to 3rd being out is that when your in OD locked and let off the gas and punch it again it will kickdown. Im thinking that the torque converter is unlocking in this process instead of it downshifting but it could be going from 3 to OD locked. But like climbing a steep hill it will wind all the way to 3.5 or 4 grand before it will switch from 2nd, thats why i was thinking it was 3rd out.

Reguardless I'll drive it till it breaks lol. Are the trannys the same in my car as the newer body styles? If so, it should be easy to find a donor car right?

Thanks for answering my questions even though im a n00b :P Im a regular on http://www.s10forum.com If any of you are ever on there my name is the same as it is here.

I was under there Saturday and woulda swore it said 4T60e right on the pan. Could it have said 4T60? I'm 90% sure it doesnt have a detent cable. What years would switch out with a 4T60 VS. 4T60e? Thanks for all the help!
