Addicted To Boost Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 I want to make the crosslaces on my TGP look better. This is what they look like right now (pictured below). The previous owner had the lips of the wheels powdercoated silver... it looks decent, but I want the wheels to shine like their original glory. I would like the end result to look like these: To do this, I will need to remove the powdercoating from the lips of the wheels. How can I do this? Any tips or tricks to get the wheels all shiny and cleaned up are much appreciated! Thanks Nick Quote
Andrew Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 dont do it!! they are so perty right now. Quote
ManicMechanic Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 They do look good, I'd leave it! Quote
Psych0matt Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 dont do it!! they are so perty right now. They do look good, I'd leave it! Quote
White93z34 Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 those are mint! i wish mine were 2/56ths as nice as that! personally i'd leave it. however lots and lots of sanding will get you a shiny lip. Quote
mfewtrail Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 The wheels you posted above that were shiny kinda look like the lips are bare aluminum that has been polished. I would try to find another set to refinish Nick, removing that powdercoat would probably be a tedious task... Quote
CSI_MuNkY Posted June 20, 2007 Report Posted June 20, 2007 If you don't like them you can give them to me! I can give you mine to mess with! lol Jamie Quote
Addicted To Boost Posted June 20, 2007 Author Report Posted June 20, 2007 Thanks for the comments and compliments guys! The wheels you posted above that were shiny kinda look like the lips are bare aluminum that has been polished. I would try to find another set to refinish Nick, removing that powdercoat would probably be a tedious task... Yea that sounds like a better idea... I'd love to find another set of x-laces, but they are IMPOSSIBLE to find around here- all of the GPs here have sawblades Oh well. Someday maybe. Quote
Q-Ball Posted June 21, 2007 Report Posted June 21, 2007 Those rims will look a lot better for a longer amount of time. I'd leave it myself. If money has been spent to powder coat it, why take it off? So it will get shiny, big deal. Shiny is the cheap way out. Quote
Addicted To Boost Posted June 22, 2007 Author Report Posted June 22, 2007 Ok ok everyone I'll leave them alone On a side note, does anyone have any center caps that they wanna get rid of? As you can see, the writing is all gone on mine. Quote

pwmin Posted June 22, 2007 Report Posted June 22, 2007 i would polish the lip myself. im sure you probably wont want any of these, but i have a set of silver "ABS" center caps and a set of 01 Special Edition center caps. guess i have to name a price (see injector thread), so $100 a set (negotiable) Quote
AWeb80 Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 I'd leave them .....i got a clear coat on my lip and love it...its not as shiny as polished aluminum...but it is soooo easy to take care of. Quote
needsomehelp Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 I personally would find a way to remove the powdercoat or find another set. I'll gladly trade you my silver ones lmao. I could find you a set of caps, but they would be silver, can't find the black ones anywhere, I'd like a set for myself. Quote
mra32 Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 i have black plastic ones with the pontiac symbol engraved in the middle. I imagine there is some sort of paint that should go in there. I'd have to look at them to see if they are sellable (meaning: no damage) but they defnitely are dirty. but if i sold them, i'd need to replace them with something. are those abs centers just a sticker? I would be interested in those if they are in nice condition. The ABS ones are just painted on- they aren't stickers. Quote
mra32 Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 so its pretty much just a flat piece of plastic on the surface? no engravings, or things of the sort? Quote
AWeb80 Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 so its pretty much just a flat piece of plastic on the surface? no engravings, or things of the sort? my centercaps were just plastic w/ ABS sticker on them....I polished them smooth and then covered them w/ vinyl. Quote
