xtremerevolution Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 Hmm...this is a bit unusual. When its hot outside and I get in my car and turn the air on max, there's a really weird damp smell that doesn't smell too great. It usually goes away once I turn the A/C on. I just wanted to ask real quick though, is there a filter for the A/C and air vents? Is that filter replaceable? Or does it just suck in straight air from the outside? I remember my uncle replaced the filter in his Pontiac Trans Sport van and said it made a HUGE difference in air flow. I've also noticed some of my airflow slightly decreasing. Any ideas? Quote
Mach 5 Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 get some lysol and spray it in your vents on top of your hood by the windshield. Its because of all the bacteria in your vents. Its a good practice to do this every couple of months. Just make sure to do this with the vent on high. Quote
xtremerevolution Posted June 18, 2007 Author Report Posted June 18, 2007 so there's no filter to change? Quote
Pabz Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 On newer models there is an cabin air filter that is accessed from under the hood close to the firewall. Quote
1990lumina Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 I doubt your Regal would have a cabin air filter..it's a good practice to get into, to turn the hvac to vent a minute or so before shutting the car off..should make that smell go away, or at least keep it from getting worse. Quote
ron350 Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 Can any one tell me where this AC Delco #15-63057 filter is located? This is listed as an evaporator filter for 96 and older W-bodys so I don’t think it is a cabin filter. http://198.208.187.182/internet/VehiclePartDescription.jsp?selectedfld=&application=Car%2FLight+Duty+Truck&year=1994&make=OLDSMOBILE&model=CUTLASS+SUPREME&engine=V6+3.1L+189cid+GAS+FI+N+Engine+VIN+%3D+M++++++&productline=24&part=6764 Quote
ZoomZoomFan Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 Hmm....my grandma's '04 Caddy has air that smells like major body odor for a few minutes after you turn the A/C on. And my Grand Am doesn't smell at all. Quote

It is buried... deep. A shop would charge $300+ in labor for this FYI Quote

I remember my uncle replaced the filter in his Pontiac Trans Sport van and said it made a HUGE difference in air flow. I've also noticed some of my airflow slightly decreasing. Any ideas? Lysol is great, but to defeat the origin of the odor, you must get rid of the condensate water. The condensate drip pan holds about 2 cups of water before it will overflow. If your drip hose is clogged, you will need to clean it out. When you go under the car, look up between the engine and firewall right about center of the car. You will see the hose hanging down from a 90 degree bend from the firewall. Pull that, and clean it. It might be a bitch to get to, but mine was clogged earlier this year and I yanked it off. Mine was also pretty messed up, so I just replaced it outright. The water may drip over the condensate and it will end up on the floorboard or in the vents causing that horrid smell. The mid-90's ford escorts had this problem really bad. The hose would clog within a month. I finally replaced mine with different parts and no more musty smell. Quote
ron350 Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 Thanks RJansen658 I wondered where that filter was located. I was so tired of the moldy smell that I flooded the evap box with bleach and water. Once you kill all the mold you then have to get rid of the bleach smell. Tried the Lysol spray but it only covered up the smell a little. Quote
