badassoldspower
Ok, so yestrerday, I left Nebraska to go see my mom in colorado, no problem, only on my first stop for gas i noticed a oily residue all over my back bumper, so i was like wtf, I looked under the car, and she was soaked in transmission fluid, so i start it back up to check my fluid level, and its fine, and all other fluids are fine, so I continue on my trip, and notice that the residue is back, but the fluid level is still fine. So im guessing at this point the tranny is overfull from when i put fluid in it, and it must just be now having a problem seeing as how i never drive it at one time for more than 80 or so miles, so is the fluid getting hot enough on my long trip that it being overfull is causing it to leak this bad? Also I got under the car today to see where the leak is coming from and i found i good size hole in my transmission dipstick tube, but the hole is all the way up where the bracket is (4-5) inches away from the full line on the dipstick itself, so my overall question is, when a transmission is in Drive, does the fluid level rise that much in the tube that it would find its way out that hole? Im not familiar if the fluid level rises that much or not, if it does, my fix is simple, otherwise i am just fixing a hole that is causing no problems. GP1138
I'd replace the dipstick tube, or patch the hole, just to be sure.
1990lumina
I'd be fixing that hole regardless. And, yes, under certain conditions the fluid could be getting hot enough to rise up the filler tube. In fact, if you overfilled the transmission like a lot of ppl do on here it's possible it was pushing fluid out that hole. My friend's Mustang pushed fluid out the dipstick tube a few weeks ago after he overfilled it and said "fuck, whatever" to it..couple days later he was smokin up 8th street burning tranny fluid on the exhaust/engine block. Guest JuniorBaconChee
You dont spose it has something to do with altitude change.....?
GP1138
You dont spose it has something to do with altitude change.....? I think it has more to do with fluid pressure.

Brian P
fluid level goes higher when the car is NOT running. So if you've got a hole in the tube, it's probably leaking when the car is momentarily turned off.
